Currently, only one smartphone is supported

A “new” Sprint is emerging under the leadership of CEO Marcelo Claure. After announcing budget-friendly family share plans early last week, the company upped the ante with a new $60 unlimited plan.
This week, Sprint is offering up some new perks for its customers that regularly travel overseas. Sprint will allow customers to place Wi-Fi calls (and send text messages) while overseas to family, friends, and colleagues back in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico free of charge.
“As this international capability becomes available on more of our devices, Sprint customers won’t have to think twice about calling home while on vacation or away on business,” said Wayne Ward, Sprint’s VP of Business and Product Development. “This is one more tool we are giving our customers to stay easily connected with those who matter most.”

There are, however, quite a few restrictions for those that plan to take advantage of this new feature. First of all, international Wi-Fi calling is only supported in roughly 100 countries at this point. And while Wi-Fi calling within the U.S. is currently supported on 11 Android-based smartphones, only one smartphone, the Galaxy S4, supports international Wi-Fi calling.
Sprint Galaxy S4 users are already being pushed an over-the-air (OTA) to support the functionality, while the rest of the Sprint portfolio (Android-only) will receive the update “throughout 2014.”
