Out of tune ad ballad draws few fans

Well, Research in Motion ... er BlackBerry, Ltd. (TSE:BB) finally pushed its QNX based BlackBerry 10 platform out the door.  It's celebrating by releasing another interesting YouTube video (Is it an ad? We don't know!). 

Some are questioning BlackBerry's judgement in continuing to post such strange advertising pitches to its developers account.  One user "Tron5500" writes, "Come on blackberry ! Your scaring away all your potential customers..."

And Calum Redhead writes, "Is this a joke?"

Another user types "awkward", while another commenter quips, "wow this is just absolutely horrible. i want those 3min of my life back."

At least they haven't said they're bigger than Jesus yet. Which is ironic since Apple has so much in common with religious belief.

I can watch progressive commercials. I turned the above video off at 35 seconds when the guy starts to sing because I cringed so bad I nearly slid off my chair.

Don’t blame us, we don’t know any better. Compared to most of the “Canadian content” our media industry pumps out, this is fantastic. You guys might not like it, but it will be a runaway hit here at home.

If you are referring to DailyTech, they have been having issues for weeks. It was only yesterday that Chrome blocked the site for me, but SiteAdvisor has been posting warnings and blocking content for a few months.

It seems to be related to the ads. A few times I have seen the page running full blast on the processor and had to reload it to get the issues to go away. I also found one ad was constantly trying to access data from outside its iFrame, which would throw an exception. The ad would catch the exception and try the same thing again, resulting in 100% processor load on one core and an ever growing memory foot print.

Microkernels run several parts of the OS in separate modules in user space memory. Mikrokernels like Mach were found to perform poorly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mach_(kernel)#Perform...

Apple took Mach with parts of BSD components and adopted it into a hybrid/monolithic design because of the slow performance of Mach is a microkernel. OSX, Linux/Android, Windows, BSD etc. all use either Monolithic or hybrid kernels.

QNX is used mostly for small embedded devices before now. Apple, Microsoft, the Linux kernel team, and the BSD's all believe pure microkernels perform too slowly or they would have been using them before now.

BB10 represents one of the first times in the last couple decades a true microkernel will be used for a user operating system.

If the system isn't slow due to inter-process communication they are going to prove a lot more people wrong than just me.

It's also possible that owning QNX they have made customization to the design and moved some functions from user mode/memory to kernel mode/memory to reduce message passing/IPC and improve performance. This would make it more of a hybrid kernel but so far I've not heard this at least.

I guess RIM didn't learn from Palm's webOS saga that terrible ads will hurt even a good product. I can deal with bizarre, but I can't put up with cheesy.
