Galaxy S5 sales doubled S4 sales in some countires on launch day

Samsung has offered up a few [vague] details on the launch day sales of the new Galaxy S5 smartphone. The Galaxy S5 went on sale around the world on April 11 and racked up more sales on opening day than the previous Galaxy S4 was able to muster.

Samsung noted that the S5 doubled the sales of the older phone in some countries, but declined to give specifics. Sticking with that theme, Samsung says that it received millions of orders for the S5, but didn't offer a specific number of actual sales.

Looking back at previous Galaxy smartphone launches, the previous generation Galaxy S4 reached the 10 million units sold mark in about a month. The Galaxy S3 hit 10 million units in about 50 days, while the Galaxy S2 needed five months to reach that same milestone.

The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1” 1080p display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor paired, fingerprint reader, 16MP camera, 2800 mAh battery, and USB 3.0 connectivity.

The Galaxy S5 is available across 125 countries including the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Latin America, and most of Asia.

Does the S5 have an 800 cpu or 801?

So instead of reading the article (or even just skimming):

quote:
The Galaxy S5 features a 5.1” 1080p display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon *** (trololol) processor paired, fingerprint reader, 16MP camera, 2800 mAh battery, and USB 3.0 connectivity.

Or doing an incredibly quick google search, you decided to make a post on the article and wait for someone else to come back to you with the answer at some unknown time in the future?

Actually yes that is the point of a question to wait for an answer. The reason I asked the question in the first place is because I did read the entire article and read that THIS article claims the cpu to be 800 yet I read elsewhere that it would be an 801 hence my question to the more knowledgeable DT readers in case the article is incorrect since DT has reported incorrect specs on the S5 before.
So do you want to be a troll inighthawki and assume I didn't read the article, or do you actually have an answer to share you ridiculous fail of a human being?

Apologies for the harsh tone. The "trololol" was just meant to be a funny joke. But you should've been way more clear instead of coming off as someone too lazy to read past the headline of the article. You would be shocked at the number of people who do that. I'm normally happy to help answer legitimate questions, but I have no sympathy for people who are just too lazy to find the answer themselves. How was I to know you've seen conflicting reports with the way you worded your OP?

I should have been more clear? There was no reason for me to explain why I was asking the question the important part was the question in the first place. My question was very clear you just happened to assume something else and I don't write out my responses in case someone like you is reading it I write them out for those who can actually answer the question, which still hasn't happened. Instead of answering the question people just rate down. The point of my post was the question not my reasoning for the question.
DT last time reported that the S5 would support up to a 64gb micro SD card which isn't true it supports 128gb but when I asked that question in that article no one answered the question and the article was never edited to fix the error. Elsewhere I read that the US version of the S5 might be shipping with a snapdragon 801 while elsewhere I read the European version might be an 805. i shouldn't have to explain all this just to get an answer for "800 OR 801!!?!?!".

I placed an order with my carrier, but when I was informed that they would only provide the 16gb version, I promptly changed to a Gun Metal HTC One (M8).

You do know the S5 has an SD card slot, right?

Yeah, so does the new One... your point?

Makes sense it would sell well

A lot of people held on to their S3 rather than moving to the S4. Many of them are probably due for an upgrade, and S3 to S5 is a pretty good jump. As phones will probably not advance as much from one gen to the next as they have in the past, I expect most people will skip a gen or 2 before upgrading.

All a Gimmick. . . .

Remember:
Samsung ONLY reports "shipped" numbers, NOT "sold" numbers - and have been caught inflating many numbers recently (including sales numbers, follow the trial)

So - one has to wonder. . . Who's right.
The only "known" fact: Apple is eating everyone else's lunch when it comes to "profit" and after all, isn't that why business exists? To make "profit"???

Be fair. If this had been Apple, all the fanatics would be crowing about how Apple still had the magic touch.

Or they would be here mocking Samsungs sales...oh wait.

You know that Spain is a rich country with 47 million citizens and even with the crisis they probably bought a lot of Galaxy S4, right?

Rich? where? ppl earn $1,1-1,2k/month on average with no welfare available when it's over. I wouldn't call that "rich".

It depends on the cost of living. That amount of money in CA or NY would get you homeless and starving. In some states you could get by and at least survive, and in some countries you would be in fat city with plenty left over to play with.

$600-850 average rent
$65 internet
$20 cellphone
$100-150 water/power
$21 average meal at rest.

prices in general aren't cheap for the kind of wages you get.

"is some duplicitous headline grabbing but vacuous statement "

Oh the irony. Coming from you this is priceless.

It's not a threat Tony. It's just a phone. Relax. Breath. Repeat. /rollseyes.
