New leaked images claim to be an engineering prototype

Considering that tonight is the big day for the official unveil the Samsung Galaxy S IV, we will know all the official details in short order. However, that hasn't stopped a myriad of supposed images and specifications of the device from hitting the web this week. More images that claim to be of the device had turned up, this time out China.

The device pictured is supposedly an engineering prototype. We'll have to wait a few more hours and see if the actual device unveiled by Samsung looks anything like these leaked images that have been turning up over the last few weeks.

I wish Samsung adopted better industrial design principles. All this plastic garbage has got to go. They should take a leaf out of HTC's book, which always have great form.

to each his own... i have always felt that HTCs look cheap and amateurish. samsungs, for the most part, look a bit uninspiring, but they're well-made. the best designs, imho, are by sony and LG.

one other thing: my girlfriend has an HTC (inspire, i think), with an aluminium back. while there is an opening there for a memory card, the battery cannot be replaced, which is annoying. i bought a spare battery on amazon for 12 bucks (for my galaxy s2x), and just swap it in when the need arises. so a plastic back is an advantage, as long as the chassis is designed solidly.

Just because it's metal doesn't mean it can't have a replaceable battery.
I have an old Nokia that has a completely metal back and a replaceable battery.

No, what they want you to do is, when your lithium battery dies (And it will die, they all do!) they want you to send it back so you are enticed to upgrade or spend money on fixing it.
All good business of course, sucks for the consumer though.

My original Galaxy S had an all metal back and I could open it and replace the battery. My current Infuse has a plastic back that is actually much nicer then my original Galaxy S and I have the Galaxy Note II on it's way with it's plastic back that I really like. So I guess it's all a matter of personal opinion.

When will you simpletons learn. Plastic does not equal cheap.

Engineered plastics are a viable material when done right.

When it comes down to it most of us are not going to be purchasing the phone based on plastic or metal alone, but the overall look and feel along with performance and features. Features could mean replaceable battery, better camera, etc.

I wouldn't ever judge a phone good or bad without knowing the performance numbers and how it felt when I was hold it.

Its just dependant on what you prefer. Good plastic like the GS3 (and I presume GS4) have the advantage of being scratch and wear resistant. Tehy look clean and new longer than any other material... But do lok and feel cheap. Aluminum is great with look and feel but scratches and wears easily.

This liquid metal we keep hearing about seems promising. Cant wait to see it in real product.

the camera boob nipple thing is still there...always thought that was weird. great camera on the gs3 already tho so I am sure it will only get better.

Speaking of cameras, does anyone know how the GS3's camera compares to the HTC One X??? I thought the One X's camera was awesome.

The camera on the GS3 is actually not very good. I was initially sold on the camera as it takes pictures really quickly and has lots of settings. However, once you've taken the pictures, the contrast is not great and on the poor screen of the GS3 they look uninspiring. Even on a pc they look demonstrably worse than pictures taken with the IP5 and the HTC One X. The absolute worst thing with the camera is that I kept getting dust and lint under the lens! Inexcusable.

Samsung can't win lol. The S3 was a radical departure in the looks department, and people cried it was "ugly". Now the one is too "plain" lol.

I like it, it's sexy. It's understated, and understated is good. It's a phone, not a fashion accessory.


Like the front, hate the back.

The front looks awesome. I wish the back looked more polished and sturdy. It just looks cheap and flimsy. It may not be cheap or flimsy but that's how it looks. I also don't like that the camera protrudes, it feels uncomfortable in my pocket when it isn't flush.

All in all, phone designs are starting to get uninspiring. There isn't really a lot you can do that hasn't been done.

When I first held it, I thought to myself, "What kind of futuristic plastic is this? It doesn't feel like any other kind."

Besides, the plastic scratches less than anything aluminum. And its coloring doesn't flake off like anodized aluminum.

And why does it even matter? You're going to put it into a case anyways. If it bothers you that much, just get a case with some dadgum aluminum.
