Apple's iPhone 6 gets an unveil date

It looks as though the iPhone 6 has an official event date, and it’s been set for September 9. Re/code first revealed the date, with both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg confirming the information.
The next generation iPhone will reportedly be available in two screen sizes: 4.7” and 5.5”. While mockups of both models have been spotted in the wild, the leaked components that we have seen have been mostly of the smaller model (the mockups/renders below are of the 4.7" model).

We don’t have any definitive hardware specs for the iPhone 6 – unlike unreleased, competing offerings from Samsung – but both smartphones will more than likely feature 64-bit Apple A8 processors, an improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and a significant boost in display resolution (reports have pegged the 4.7” model with a screen resolution of 1740x960).
We’d also be very surprised if Apple didn’t include 802.11ac support along with LTE-A connectivity.

The current generation iPhones -- the 5S and 5C -- were introduced on September 10, 2013.

Just my personal opinion

But if that's what the final phone looks like, then I think it looks pretty ugly. The 4 through 5S design is far more pleasing.

so get the 4.7" one. it's going to look just like the 5S...

That pic, and the dozens of leaks already available for months now show the 4.7. That is what it looks like. The 5.5 has been harder to find.

Anyhow, I dont think it's bad, I like the tapered corners. That and finally getting decent screen size and res is a good thing. Alot of people have been waiting a long time for this.

Yup, I won't use anything other than an iPhone (maybe Windows Phone, but I might need better apps), and screen size and data interchange between apps were the only two things I've been missing and both are coming with the iPhone 6 and iOS8.

Agreed. Those stripes across the back are hideous. Much like in the HTC One M8 (They were present in the M7 but more subdued).

I can't see Apple really doing this.

Me either. Those breaks in the chassis are ridiculously huge. That is all that my eyes have been drawn to.

I am sure that isn't the final product. Probably test dummies, or early engineering samples.

I agree and I'm an Apple fanboi LOL!

I'm skeptic that they're going to release 2 different sizes too.

It is pretty ugly imo, but there are only so many times they can recycle a 4 year old design. who knows if this is the final design, and not just prototype mockups. could just be camera trickery, but in the picture with the 3 phones, it looks like the cameras are misaligned, and not uniformly.

Don't know, I like soft edges - feel much nicer in hand. I always preferred how my 3Gs feels in my hand, compared to company's 4s. I also like my current Lumia 920 handling, again due to soft, curvy sides.

The plastic/resin joins look a little reminiscent of the HTC One M8/M7 design. I don't yet love it, but definitely getting some on day 1 (though not queueing for it) to develop with. I'm relatively happy with my HTC One M8 as my regular phone du jour, in terms of build quality. It is a bit rough round the edges and games I play a lot seem to slow down and make it overheat. I'm missing being able to use all my other Apple stuff like Airplay and iTunes Match, iCloud backup/restore etc. although Android has certainly improved since I last tried it, it seems more polished.

Oh please don't let them be rounded

Oh please don't let them be rounded like the one on the mockup photo. That's so ugly.

Stupid Apple

Well gosh darn it...

this is impossible. I thought Tim Cook and Apple claimed that 3.7-inches is "just right" and that anything bigger is "just ridiculous"...

Accurate images?

Several persons said the new model was ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack. It looks like it's still there but at the same time (because it's a pic of proto or non-working model) it doesn't look quite like a jack. Maybe that's also why the power button looks crooked...

I think it was a preemptive move by Apple to save the lawyers for the lawsuits that will be filed against them for this design. ;)

/sarcasm in case the wink wasn't enough.

No 5.5" version then bleh...

Quite honestly, if they only release a 4.7" version then bleh...
