The Nissan Note with custom 'self-cleaning' paint job  (Source: Nissan)
Nissan is testing a self-cleaning car prototype that uses a custom paint that repels dirt, debris and oil.

Carmaker Nissan demonstrated a new nano-paint coating, dubbed Ultra-Ever Dry, which keeps dirt and debris from actually sticking to the paint.  Instead, the custom super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint can repel everything from mud, rain, dirt and oil, so the car effectively cleans itself without the driver needing to break out the car soap, sponge and bucket.
Nissan is now attempting to determine if the material is durable for long-term use on vehicles -- and if it will hold up in different weather conditions around the globe.  The Japanese automaker plans to test its custom technology this summer in Europe, with researchers based in its England technical facility using a Versa Note for testing.

Currently marketed and sold by UltraTech International, Nissan is the first company to use Ultra-Ever Dry on vehicle bodywork.  If made available to consumers, Nissan plans to use Ultra-Ever Dry as an aftermarket feature.
Nissan’s application of Ultra-Ever Dry would join its recent use of self-healing paints in its Infiniti line of vehicles.
