Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer
The move is to boost employee morale and to help them understand what Yahoo customers are using to view their site

Yahoo's new CEO Marissa Mayer is looking to boost employee morale by giving them all brand-new smartphones.

Aside from the morale aspect, Mayer is doing this to put devices that Yahoo customers use in the hands of Yahoo employees, too. This should help Yahoo workers understand what their customers are using, and help them offer better mobile products.

Also, the new 4G phones that employees have to choose from will increase productivity due to 4G's faster browsing and download capabilities.

According to an internal memo, Yahoo is getting rid of its BlackBerry smartphones and will now offer a new list of choices to both full-time and part-time employees. The choices include the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S III, the HTC One X, the HTC EVO 4G LTE and the Nokia Lumia 920

In addition to getting free phones, employees will have their monthly data and phone bills covered by Yahoo.

The memo mentioned that Yahoo is starting to take orders for the new smartphones now.

Mayer left a prominent position at Google back in July of this year to become Yahoo's new CEO. She was one of the first female employees at Google back in 1999 and made her way up to Vice President of Local, Maps and Location Services.

Yahoo's previous CEO, Scott Thompson, stepped down in May after he was caught giving false information about his degree

crappy photo.. she isn't smiling. Most people don't look hot or good when they are frowning...

In general, she's a very attractive and bright person.

Her first mistake is going to Yahoo.

It does seem that Yahoo (and many other sites) don't know how to DEAL with Smart Phones... they bounce between MOBILE and desktop when I WANT IT ON DESKTOP mode.

I have a 1280x720 screen phone (Same as my notebook) and I want a desktop type browser experience!

Yeah, at least they were smart to give several options and all of them quite new. Good for them!

I keep reading comments by people who hate Yahoo from multiple websites or even from the Yahoo site itself. I enjoy using Yahoo's main page as a portal to read random news. And I like how their sports section is setup. Anyone else here who think Yahoo isn't as bad as what people tend to say it is?

What?! No more BlackBerry?

No more BlackBerry?! There goes the last BB users in the world, other than the hand-me-downs given to kids

Providing Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X/EVO 4G, iPhone 5, and the Nokia Lumia 920... is good sense. Covers the big 3 platforms.. Well, WP7/8 has no market share... but is most likely to survive.

BB10... would be impressive, if it came out a year ago or more. BB10 is out-dated compared to Android 4.0...

"There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance." -- Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer
