Lumia 730 will reportedly feature a Snapdragon 400 processor and 5MP front-facing camera

It seems though the world has gone crazy for selfies — even celebrities aren’t immune, as we’ve witnessed over the past 24 hours — and smartphone manufacturers are doing their best to appease customers.

In early July, Sony introduced its mid-range Xperia C3 smartphones, which it proclaimed to be “the world’s best selfie smartphone” thanks to its 5MP “PROselfie” front-facing camera (complete with its own soft LED flash). Chinese OEM Huawei has even gone so far as to trademark the term “groufie” for taking panoramic group shots with a front-facing camera.

Microsoft will unveil its take on the selfie smartphone, the Lumia 730, this week at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany. The company today released a new teaser for the Lumia 530, which puts the emphasis on the smartphone’s front-facing camera.

The Lumia 730’s selfie camera is expected to feature a 5MP sensor like the Xperia C3, but it will reportedly not feature that smartphone’s forward-facing LED flash. According to WP Central, the Lumia 730 will also bring with it a 6.1MP rear camera, quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot, 2000 mAh battery, and dual-SIM capabilities. There have been conflicting reports on the resolution of the Lumia 730’s 4.7” display, with both 720p and 854x480 resolutions being cited.

A separate model, the Lumia 735, will lack dual-SIMs, but will include LTE connectivity.

We’ll have full coverage of the Lumia 730/735 announcement later this week and its launch partner, the Lumia 830.

But I have nowhere else to mention it.

Why haven't you guys yet reported on Anand retiring from AnandTech? Supposedly, he's going to work for Apple. I would think you guys would know more, considering your historical relationship to AnandTech (note: DailyTech is NOT AnandTech; some people are still saying that.)

I know no more than what has already been reported, although I have talked with Anand and have wished him all the best on his new venture in Cupertino.

I figured he was under NDA; he didn't even mention where he was going in his farewell post. Still, I thought you guys would have given him a send off here on DT! At least a quick note or something... I have fond memories of early AT after bailing on Toms Hardware nine years ago, so I admit to being biased. :)

Most likely the case.

9to5mac place has an article up about it stating that like with Brian, Anand is also parting ways to go and join apple.

Funny he's going to Apple and NOT MS or Google.
And that means what, exactly? I know you're trolling, but this still doesn't make any sense.

Another MS phone? Yawn.... who is going to sell, develop for it, buy it?
Not Huawei, it just bailed on Windows Phone. But its phones were crap, so of course no one bought them. 512MiB of RAM? 8GB of flash? 800x480 4.3" display? And ugly as sin? Please...

The HTC M8, however, is quite nice. The Nokia Lumia Icon/930 is also a nice Windows Phone. Both have hardware comparable with most Android Phones, and outclass the iPhone 5S in most specs. Both have a build quality equal to that of the iPhone and the Galaxy Alpha (and it's rumored A-descendents). Anyone claiming there aren't any Windows Phones equal to those running Android and iOS are liars.

Then again, maybe MS needs to take a page from Apple's PR book:

Well, Anand was using (and preferring) some Apple gear recently, and I understand him completely. While I could not return from my Lumia to iPhone at present - I just like how WP8.1 works much more than iOS - and my desktop is set in (Windows) stone, since I'm also gaming... I am also considering MacBook Pro for my next laptop. From what is available in NZ, MBP simply ticks more boxes than any Windows laptop I can source locally. And the price in New Zealand is surprisingly mellow, compared to premium Windows laptops.

But eventually, somewhere along the way an offer came to Anand from Apple, and he obviously liked it - a lot. It is silly to say he could have gone to Google or MS if neither Google nor MS have offered him a job. He is a celebrity of tech world, kind of, but I don't think that would guarantee top office if he'd show at Google and say "I am Anand. Give me an awesome job".

I'd go for the dual-SIM version (to have private and job numbers combined in a single device) if the price is right. This thing has specs similar (RAM, SoC) or inferior to Moto G (display) so price better not exceed that of Moto G, lest M$ wants another mediocre seller.

As for that selfie crap, they can stuff it somewhere (although the square angles on that enclosure might pose a problem with that ...).

Ugh, why no edit function DT ?

Forgot to mention that I'm only interested in dual-SIM phone if both SIMs are active at the same time ... It's useless otherwise.

I dont think anyone is saying that... Not that I have heard anyhow, but there is a relationship and it isn't just historical. Since DT branched off from AT The sites are run independently but they are still hosted together. When one site is down, the other is down as well. Go to Anandtech and you will still see your dailytech news. In all these years, I have never once went to "dailytech.com". I access it through my homepage - Anandtech.

Since you brought that nugget up, I wonder if DT's still hosted by LMCD.

Good now maybe Anandtech can get back to solid unbiased review-based content that helped earn their (formerly) stellar reputation.

You could tell he was getting more and more pro-Apple and less honest. Not surprised at all he's selling out completely.

Er, that "pro-Apple" bias was evident, just a lot less in-your-face, before Jobs kicked the bucket. And even with that bias in mind, there is always some "why didn't i think of this before" lurking under the surface.

Anand's a good guy. Now if you say Tom Pabst, I'd agree that guy's an ass.

Whaaaaaaaaaat? Anand's leaving Anandtech?!?

Ugh, that stinks if true.

I mean he should do whatever's best for him, blah blah blah, but I want him here! :-D
