Emergency broadcast system gives alarming message to daytime TV fans

If you happened to live in Montana and be watching the CW mid-afternoon on Monday you might have had your enjoyable "Steve Wilkos: Teen Cheaters..." programming interrupted with a disturbing message.  The Montana Television Network Great Falls affiliate KRTV's CW station informed watchers that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" across the state.

The emergency broadcast then went on to warn citizens that the walking dead were attacking the fleshy residents of the state, warning citizens not to try to "approach or apprehend these bodies as they are extremely dangerous."

The network apologized for the broadcast, saying it was not authentic and that its engineers were investigating a possible intrusion into the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

While the broadcast was phony it inspired several calls to local police from concerned citizens who believed it to be real, according to the The Great Falls Tribune.  Lt. Shane Sorensen is quoted by the paper as saying, "We had four calls checking to see if it was true. And then I thought, ‘Wait. What if?’  We can report in the city, there have been no sightings of dead bodies rising from the ground."

It is unknown who hacked into the system or what charges they might face.  If the zombie apocalypse had been real, at least Montanans would have been well prepared -- Montana is reportedly the third highest state in terms of gun ownership, with 57.7 percent of citizens being registered gun owners [source].

Well, who? :)

As Duke Nukem would say, "Let's rock!"

My guess is that those in charge at the station will spin it in terms of the "evil hackers" while sweeping under the rug the facts that 1) they need to improve their security and 2) if the hackers wanted to they could've caused some real panic.

Regardless, what they did was illegal. Funny, but illegal. If they catch these guys, I hope they have a sense of humor about it. They should make them pick up trash on the side of the highway dressed as zombies.

And what if the zombies were actually able to use guns themselves?

I watched the A-Team. I'm pretty sure I know how to outfit a van that'll keep the zombies off my ass.

It's the logical next step...

Montana Gun Registration?
By HangFire on 2/14/2013 12:41:34 PM , Rating: 2
Since Montana has NO gun registration- or gun owner registration- so in fact, Montana has 0% registered gun owners.

Registration is limited to states like Illinois and Massachusetts, and maybe soon Maryland. But not yet Maryland.

However there are many in the media who like to use the term "registered", I suppose to get people used to the idea that this should be the norm? Or maybe the media keeps abusing this term because it is clueless. I don't know which idea is scarier.
