The price increase isn't as dramatic as we once feared

When the rumors first started coming out that the 2015 Ford F-150 would switch to aluminum instead of steel for its body, many expressed concerns that the lightweight material would mean a dramatic increase in price. After all, aluminum isn’t cheap and it has traditionally been harder to work with than steel, so the concerns weren’t totally out of line.
Today, we’re finally learning just how much the move to aluminum will cost — and it’s actually not that bad by all accounts. For the two lowest trims on the F-150 totem pole — the XL and the XLT — the base prices have only increased by $395 compared to their 2014 model year counterparts. That means that the trucks will now start at $26,615 and $31,890 respectively.

It should be noted that the relatively low pricing penalty is being applied to the two trim levels that account for 60 to 70 percent of al F-150 sales according to The Detroit News.
Once you start getting into the higher trim levels, the price increase starts to jump. The 2015 F-150 Lariat has witnessed an $895 price increase, while the King Ranch’s base price has been boosted by $3,615. Ford’s Mike Levine, however, counters, stating that over $4,500 of standard equipment has been added to the King Ranch which more than makes up for the price differential compared to last year’s model.
New standard features on the King Ranch include LED headlights and taillights, remote tailgate release, heated rear seats, a blind spot monitoring system, and push button start.

Ford announced last week that its brand new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine would generate 325hp and 375 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a payload capacity of 2,250 pounds and a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds. Ford also brought a 2014 Ford F-150 Lariat Crewcab 4x4 side-by-side with its 2015 model year counterpart to show that the latter tips the scales carrying 732 fewer pounds.
