Hello ATI.AMD.com

AMD today announced its acquisition of ATI has been completed for an approximate $5.4 billion USD. The transaction details include a $4.3 billion cash buyout and 58 million shares of AMD common stock in exchange for all common shares of ATI. Shareholders were offered the following options:
  • ATI shareholders who elected to receive cash will be entitled to receive, for each common share for which a valid cash election was made, approximately US $18.59 in cash plus approximately 0.1245 of a share of AMD common stock;
  • ATI shareholders who elected to receive stock will be entitled to receive, for each common share for which a valid stock election was made, 0.9596 of a share of AMD common stock; and
  • ATI shareholders who did not make a valid election will be entitled to receive, for each share for which no valid election was made, 0.9596 of a share of AMD common stock.
Quickly after the complete acquisition announcement AMD has absorbed ATI.com and transformed it into ati.amd.com. Gone are the red corporate ATI logos. Instead ATI’s website has turned green and filled with AMD logos. The website appears to remain the same as ATI’s previous website, though everything is greener. Nevertheless, ATI branding is still used on graphics and chipset products. Xilleon, Theater, NXT and Imageon products appear to have switched over to AMD branding.

This appears to fall in line with previous rumors that AMD would keep ATI and Radeon branding on consumer products. With the acquisition complete it is unknown if Intel will renew its cross licensing agreement with ATI in the future. ATI was previously working on a variety of Intel chipsets including the announced Radeon Xpress 1250 and upcoming RD600 CrossFire Xpress 3200 for Intel processors.

will it make my linux drivers put out the correct refresh rate without me having to spend the next five hours changing xorg.confs, compiling packages, messing about on the command line and reinstalling numerous different versions? i can but hope...

If anything, the odds are better than before.

...and this has what to do with the aquisition of ATI by AMD?

some people you know.. however it would be great if ATI driver(or "modules") support became good..

i think this might be a good thing, hopefully we'll see some evil opteron paired with some of the X19XX GPU tech's

I think he is trying to say that ATIs linux drivers are sucky at best. AMD on the other hand, has been much more active on the linux side of the fence, also because they've been hiring people with kernel dev knowledge earlier this year.

ATI linux drivers work , well the latest has no issue that i faced last year. ;(

Try the latest Linux ATI driver , i am pretty sure they have solved most of its issues.

You're the first one I've heard saying that. But I'll find out after my next upgrade cycle, when nvidia goes out and ATI back in.

I'm fine with ati linux drivers as well. I just have to edit a few things in the xorg.conf file (refresh rates, make sure it's pointing to the right drivers) and all works well. I'm fairly pleased, though it'd be nice if it was easier to configure aa/af and other fun settings.

>> ...and this has what to do with the aquisition of ATI by AMD?

well, my point was really - is it gonna change anything? i presume they'll have a little more help in the microprocessor department but is ati gonna provide anything extra in terms of support, productivity, etc... in other words, are they gonna make ati better? and do i get better linux drivers? hell, the only thing i can change is the gamma in the control pannel. and i still can't get a refresh rate higher than 85 Hz :o(

You just named the reason I can't stand Linux. Why should I have to mess with config files and recompile things? It makes me think I'm back in Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.22

Or maybe the logo being red, with green fire crawling it's way across the logo?? (think of the beginning of Armageddon, when the giant meteor hit the earth, and you saw fire spreading across the globe........that effect)

I, for one, am excited about the takeover. Now let's see if AMD can make good on our expectations. :)

I was thinking that this is going to weaken the ATI logo, because half will be green and half will be red. I always thought AMD was red also, so I didn't worry about it.

Are these the first signs of a corporation grinding its new acquisition into a fine past so they can consume it into being no more? Or is it just an attempt to make the merger look more real and complete?

GAY has other meanings other than homosexual, such as jovial. Check up dictionary.com or any available dictionaries.

But of course...the previous poster could mean what you quoted...

The logos on any of the ATI product pages are still red, so I assume the logo will be reminaing the red colour. Just the text/navigation bars were matched to AMD's green site text, not the actual logo.

That's an excessive use of the color green.

Yeah, that does kinda suck, not so much because of the green, but the layout; to me it reads more 'corporate solutions' versus 'consumer products'.

Not only does that statement not make sense, but since when is Nvidia working on a CPU?

By Russell on 10/25/2006 12:02:58 PM , Rating: 2
Though his sentence definitely makes no sense, I do suggest you monitor rumours more. Various sites are currently reporting the nVidia has started work on a CPU (or perhaps started the work a long time ago) in order to remain competitive in the post-merger environment. No details are known except that nVidia DID aquire Stexar's former staff, who specialize making in x86 CPUs. Why else would they need/want those people?

I generally don't find the inquirer to be a very reliable source but that is interesting.

I like how they have an ad on the site for a "Best Gaming PC" that is Crossfire + Core2Duo powered :)

Advertising for the opponent, are we? Or just admitting defeat? ;)

Actually every time a system like this sells, AMD coffers grow. How could this be defeat?

This is jus a thought: Actually this is a very lame, useless and stupid comment.

May b in the future it will be somethin' like this

Intel acquires Nvidia....and after 3-4 yrs Intel Acquires Amd (Don't kno how, but somehow) then intel acquires Creative...which makes Intel monopolistic. .....so we have a company which produces its own CPU's, Motherboards, PPU, GPU's, Soundcards, speakers, mp3 players, etc etc ....damn

Once again i'll tell u ....this is jus a comment

RE: Jus a thought!!
By Spoelie on 10/25/2006 1:57:23 PM , Rating: 2
Intel would be branded a monopoly much earlier than that, acquiring all those companies will never fly, nor do they have the cash for that.

Name..

I thought AMD was keeping the ATI Name but apparently it's just the Radeon name. It's going to be a bit weird seeing AMD Radeons. Oh well hopefully some good stuff will come out of this.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of, that AMD's more docile (but granted, more efficient) environment will tame some of ATi's agressiveness. The GPU market is a brutal place to compete in, where 2-3 months of delay equals a shedload of lost sales and cash. What they cannot do now, being a subsection of AMD, is lose focus on what made ATi the company that they are (ahum, were) today.

But looking at customer support seperatly, isn't that mostly handled by the AIB companies?
