Excited for the world's greatest computer trade show? We are too!
Even though I end up in Taiwan every few months or so, going
back during the Computex Taipei tradeshow is always one of my favorite
trips. Taipei is just far enough out of the way that the only people who
actually make it to the show are the manufacturers and higher ups in the
industry. The part that has always bothered me about CES, COMDEX and
CeBIT (at least from a media perspective) is that those shows are public
showcases and overcrowded. While there are a lot of locals at Computex, it’s
a lot easier to manage the crowd and it doesn't hurt being a foot taller than
everyone in the exhibition hall. Of course, the real reason I love
Computex is the in depth information I get from the engineers and product
managers that don't typically make it out of Taiwan for other trade shows.
On 6/4 Intel will lift the general embargo on Conroe, followed by the 965 platform launch on 6/7.
Broadwater motherboards
should be all over the show, and DailyTech will be there to cover that.
ATI will announce its general plans for physics processing using multiple video
cards, and we'll probably see some RD600 and RS690 demos as
well. There are no plans for ATI to announce RV570 and RV560, ATI's
next generation mid-range components, but we should see some demos behind
closed doors.
AMD will have a few working demonstrations of 65nm processors in
partner booths, and we're going to do our best to try to snag a few for
benchmarking. Expect to see lots of details on Socket F (slated for July 11th
launch), and probably some tidbits on 4x4.
NVIDIA will make some physics announcements at the show, along with details
about nForce Pro for
Socket F. Some partners are already announcing MCP61S motherboards,
but we are more interested in the MCP61P boards.
If we're lucky, we might snag a picture of G80 here or there. Finally,
NVIDIA is expected to launch GeForce 7950GX2 on 6/6.
As 2003 and 2004 were the years of SFF PCs, 2006 and 2007 will definitely focus
on UMPC and PMP devices. ASUS is expected to
announce more ultra portables, and of course we will be covering the HTC
announcement for the upcoming Hermes (and beyond). Acer and BenQ both
have plans for more ultra portables and will almost certainly make a few
announcements too. Viiv

will also be everywhere.
Now if only Northwest had WiFi on these 15 hour
flights.
