Bravia line helps to boost Sony's sales
Sony grabbed 14.6% of the LCD TV market in the fourth quarter of 2005 vaulting into first place in global shipments. Sony's strong performance knocked Sharp from the top position that it had held since the second quarter of 2001. Sharp was relegated to third place while Royal Philips Electronics took over the second place spot.
The research firm attributed Sony's increase in market share to the
successful launch of its new BRAVIA series and optimized panel capacity
through its LCD joint venture with South Korea's Samsung Electronics.
For those of you who may have forgotten, Sony's Bravia LCD TVs have been in the news in recent weeks -- and the news wasn't so good for owners.
"Well, we didn't have anyone in line that got shot waiting for our system." -- Nintendo of America Vice President Perrin Kaplan
