Video iPod? - Image courtesy MacShrine

Full screen video madness

Is this the real Video iPod? MacShrine has a picture of what appears to be a full screen iPod. These photos match up pretty well with the drawings from the US Patent and Trademark Office we posted a few weeks ago detailing a touch sensitive GUI for portable devices. Apple appears to be combining gestures into a form where a user will not have to use any form of clicking or pressing buttons. As it appears currently, the pictures indicate that users will be able to navigate the entire user interface by using gestures exclusively.

Figures that something like this pop up as soon as I pick up a 30GB 5G iPod.

It's not exciting anymore to be a consumer...

We get drawings from the patent office, sketches on napkins from designers, rumors, rumors, rumors... of course there will be a new iPod, it's progress people! But keep it a secret! I want to be surprised about something!

It used to be cool to see Steve Jobs unveil a new product at a trade show... Now we have paparazzi in labs sneaking pictures of future products!

that be an awesome ipod :! but if battery dies after 2hrs of video play backs like with current ipod then it sucks :! they need to extend the battery life of ipod. I think they are small enough and i don't really want them any smaller than but even increase a width so Apple can use a better battery.

They will be lucky if the battery even last that long. Besides the shuffle all the ipods have horrible battery life. The nano gets "14 hours" of play back time. I want to know where they got that figure from. The best I can get under ideal conditions is 7 hours and 38 min. Also I want to know why people want to watch video on an ipod? For that matter why watch video on a 3-4 in screen? It just seems very stupid.

Also considering that this video ipod seems to have about the same thickness as the current 5G, plus a screen that is much bigger and about as bright, I dont see this version getting much more than 1.5 hours unless they do some major changes.

What are these "ideal" conditions of which you speak.

Rundown tests at hydrogen audio have show ipods to run slightly longer than stated times.

Possibly a brand new one... Or a hand picked reviewers sample. Use for a month or two and you just might be down to a 5 hour battery life, or worse.

Brand new, 160kbps mp3, no back light, 75 degrees, hold on, half volume, song on repeat. Basically exactly how apple claims you should do it. I usually use it for snowboarding though and get about 6 hours out of it before it goes. I will stop complaining though because nothing in life is what you expect it will be.

As impressed as I am about this produce, the battery life can only be horrendous. Apple's cashing in on products that have diminishing utility. I think it would need to play two full length DVD's to be of any worth.
