ThinkStation family of products
. Lenovo today introduced two ThinkStation workstations based around Intel's new
The new ThinkStation D10 features two processor sockets and supports Intel's quad-core Xeon 5400 series processors. The ThinkStation S10, on the other hand, uses Intel's new Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor.
Both models come equipped with dual GbE network ports and multiple drive bays and USB 2.0 ports for expansion. Lenovo notes that both systems feature NVIDIA graphic solutions, but failed to give specifics.
Lenovo also touts the eco-friendliness of the D10 and S10 as both models are EPS Energy Star 4.0 compliant, feature power supplies that are over 80 percent efficient and contain over 50 percent of the materials used in construction of the chassis' has been recycled.
"For professional users of graphically and computationally-intensive applications who require a level of performance unattainable with a standard desktop PC, ThinkStation is Lenovo's best engineering at work," said Lenovo executive director of Emerging Products Marketing Tom Tobul. "In addition to offering Lenovo's highest performance and quality with leading-edge acoustics, the workstations also have an environmentally-responsible, user-centric design that further drives productivity."
Although the D10 and S10 were announced today, the systems won't actually begin shipping until January 2008. At that time, the D10 will feature a base price of $1,739 while the S10 will start at just $1,199.

I'm going to have to disagree with the folks here about the case design. The retro look is actually very refreshing in the industrial context. Consider that sickening Old Dell look, the quintessential early '00s staple of Business 1.0, and the much-improved New Dell inspires a sophisticated sentiment... They do not have personality on the level that this Lenovo chassis provides. One word that can summarize Dell's styling, throughout this decade: Meh. Where Dell attempts sophistication, HP's designs try to be stylish, but instead figure into being a tad gaudy, to my eyes.
Even minimalist designs-- which I love-- such as the Antec P180, Silverstone TJ-07 (a monolith!), or Lian Li cases... They don't share the charm that this retro look has. To me, this is like how Art Deco is to many people; it's 'classic' enough to have this charm.
Think about it; perhaps in terms of building architecture, the Art Deco of the 20s and 30s could be equated to the 'boombox' electronics design of the 80s.
There's no doubt about it, this definitely is a callback to that ghettoblaster era, but is oddly appropriate to the workstation design of '08.
The neologism on the 'tubes is now "Lenovoblaster"

Agreed - I think it looks neat and functional....
Put it this way - I'd rather have a square case that has no heating issues, allows easy access, and has space for upgrading (again, with no ensuing heat issues_ than a fancy one that has difficulties with any of the aforementioned.
