"Some say that his tears are adhesive, and that if he caught fire, he'd burn for a thousand days... all we know is, he's called the Stig."
In a rather surprising turn of events, Gran Turismo and Polyphony Digital have made it to DailyTech's news coverage two days in a row. Yesterday, DailyTech reported on Polyphony Digital's collaboration with Nissan on creating the multi-function display for the 2009 GT-R -- a 473 HP twin-turbocharged monster that will come to our shores sometime next year.
Today, Polyphony Digital and its Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) offspring are once again making news. It was announced today that episodes of the BBC's highly popular "Top Gear" automotive show will be available for download from GT5's GT TV service.
Initially, 40 episodes will be available for download on the PlayStation 3 -- hopefully, current episodes will also be available shortly after airing for eager beaver “Top Gear” fans.
"We at Polyphony are great fans of the world’s best motoring programme, Top Gear, so we’re delighted to be collaborating with BBC Worldwide to deliver Top Gear content via Gran Turismo," said Polyphony Digital President Kazunori Yamauchi.

"We continue to explore different avenues to share our content with an expanding audience, and are delighted to participate with Polyphony Digital in the launch of this exciting new opportunity."
Perhaps the icing on the cake comes in the form of another little surprise from Polyphonic Digital and BBC Worldwide -- GT5 racers will be able to dart around Top Gear's infamous track. That's right; you can queue up your sappy music or self-help tapes and do your best impression of the Stig plowing through "Gambon." Or perhaps you can do your own impression of a "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car."
Regardless, the “Top Gear” functionality added to GT5 is sure to set many hearts ablaze and should make for some interesting battles around the virtual test track.
