Epic Studios' Gears of War will be available for the PC on Nov. 9

Epic Games last week announced that its widely popular Gears of War video game has gone gold and will be available to PC gamers on Tuesday, Nov. 6.  Our European friends will be able to get a hold of GoW for Windows on Friday, Nov. 9.  The original Microsoft Xbox 360 version of the game has sold more than four million copies worldwide.

During the E3 Media & Business Summit 2007 held in southern California last July, Microsoft confirmed Gears of Wars would be a "Games for Windows" video game.

Similar to the Xbox 360 edition I know some of you play, Marcus Fenix and his buddies are again responsible for saving the world.  The PC version of GoW will offer five new campaigns and three PC only multiplayer maps, along with a King of the Hill mode.  Seven multiplayer maps and the annex game mode are offered to Xbox 360 gamers through the Xbox live marketplace, but will ship built-in with the PC edition of the game.  Creative gamers will have access to the Unreal Editor game editor, which is a content creation tool offered by Epic.

Gamers have the ability to choose between the traditional keyboard and mouse combination, or can use a Windows-enabled Xbox 360 controller.

A Mac OS X version of GoW is being developed by Epic, but a possible release date remains unknown.

Seriously doubt it.

It took like 2-3 years for Halo and Halo 2 to come out after it was released on the XBOX.

This shows exactly where MS stands on their game releases. better to have an exclusive title to see for their hardware and keep it there for a year or two... THEN bring it to the PC.
Now I am wondering if you are required to have the paid subscription to Live to be able to play this online... if so I will not be buying it.

There is no way that epic will make you have an xbox live subscription to play this game online, the only way they would benefit from that would be if Microsoft payed them in cash to do it. The reason halo games were stalled in their releases on pc is that they sold xbox hardware, which is far more valuable than a few million pieces of software at 40 - 50 $ apiece sold in the pc gaming market.

Epic is a business like all businesses, they hold no loyalties other than the ones that profit them the most. Why would they have graced the 360 first with gears of war (as it was the only console available to develop it on at the time), and then later praise sony's ps3 for its blue ray capacity making unreal 3 seem like a better choice to play on ps3 than xbox 360?

$$$ rules all... in business, lol

Is there any word about the new part? What part of the story does it tell? Thanks.

Thanks for the link. This looks sick. Loved the 360 ver. Between Gears and Crysis, November will show PC gamers some serious love.... as well as give the industry a boost with all the new boxes being built/bought!

DO WANT

This makes me glad I have a gaming rig. I heard great things about this game, but sadly it would not be enough to make me get a 360, and the more games for the 360 that come out for the PC the less I see a need for it. Though I am all about multiplatform games, this kind of hurts Xbox adoption rate. Sure it has a commanding lead over the PS3, but it could do so much more.

Sweet!

Pre-ordered it last week, now I have a release date!

I'd just like to know why publishers don't make more collector's edition games. Some of them (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Unreal Tournament 2004 come to mind) are really good and really worth getting. I'd love to see some making-of videos or something tossed in with a Gears of War: Collector's Edition, I'd snap it up in an heartbeat.

Mac version?

I'm a Mac user, and wonder what's the point? Outside of the Mac Pro there is no Mac that can play this game.

Only the Mac Pro has upgradeable video card, and even then your selection is pretty limited.
