Flash Based Zune Line Art  (Source: FCC)
Specifications on flash-based Zune leaked by FCC

There has been much talk online recently about the forthcoming Microsoft Zune 2.0 update that is expected any day now. While rumors were circulating about a flash-based Zune, little hard evidence was available other than nebulous statements like competitively priced and capacities similar to other offerings.

While there is still no official word from Microsoft on specifications for the new Zune line, some hard information came across the FCC exhibits today that sheds some light on the flash-based Zune devices. The juicy information about the flash-based Zune was not given thanks to a Microsoft Request for Confidentiality.

The information that was available from the FCC shows a line drawing of the flash based Zune along with labels for the devices labeled 4GB and 8GB. Some were hoping for a 16GB flash based Zune, but at launch it seems 16GB is not meant to be. There is still no word on pricing for the device, but if the line art is to scale, the flash-based Zune is very near the size of the old, skinny iPod Nano.

Link? Haven't found it at "reputable" web sites yet. Its still preorder on Amazon. Didn't see it at NewEgg or buy.com. Sounds like a great deal, though. WI did check out the Sansa before I bought my 8 GB Nano, but I thought the plastic wheel felt really cheap and would break too easily. I had best buy gift certificates, so price wasn't an issue.

$200 is the MSRP for the 16GB model. The 8GB model is $150.

You can grab it cheaper than $200 if you know how to use Google
