Apple gives itself a pat on the back

It's been a crazy two and a half months for Apple's iPhone. Crowds of people lined up to plunk down $499 and $599 respectively for the 4GB and 8GB iPhones in late June. Apple's iPhone was such a hot item at launch that over 525,000 were sold within the first three days of availability.

After the initial rush, sales cooled off for Apple's iPhone. Some analysts noted that Apple's drastic $200 price cut for the iPhone (which was later somewhat rectified for early iPhone buyers) was due to poor sales.

Apple, however, begs to differ and today proudly announced that the one millionth iPhone was sold yesterday.

“One million iPhones in 74 days—it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season.”

Apple calls the iPhone the "best mobile Internet device ever;" a title that many may take issue with. Despite the opinions expressed around the web over the iPhone -- both positive and negative -- the impact that the device has had on the mobile phone industry and how we interface with mobile devices cannot be ignored.

"i did my research and now show me yours."

No, you didn't do any research, and you didn't post it. If you did research, you would not have said the iPhone is the fastest selling phone (in the first 74 days) ever. You made a rediculous statement, with no data to back it up (because it does not exist) , I then disagreed with your claim and you are asking me to back up my disagreement.

No-one, not even Apple is claiming what you are claiming, and their marketing is well knows for outlandishly stretching the truth to make things appear better then they are...

I'm not sure why you're gloating about iPhone sales figures so much - did you create it or what? I mean, who cares?

There is no doubt that the hype leading up to the iPhone going on sale caused quite a spike in sales. In addition, one cannot underestimate the impact the iPhone has on the market, in terms of design and slightly altering customer perceptions and expectations.

But looking at it on the other side, there has been a lot of disappointment with iPhone sales as well (not to mention functionality and security). It's been widely reported that iPhone sales will well below internal sales targets, and news of low activation rates sent AT&T stock price downward.

In any case, as a practical matter, iPhone in its current form will only ever have a tiny fraction of the total market, which consists of more than 1 billion phones sold per year. You have to keep it all in perspective.

#1... You have not showed any data at all. "What other phone sold faster at any price? Here's a clue - none -)." is NOT data, it is a statement, and a false one at that

#2... I just clicked on your id, and looked at all of your previous posts. You do nothing here but post in defense of the iPhone. Not about anything else, at least not recently.

This kind of blows holes in your other comment "No I don't own a iPhone, nor am I a Apple fanboy" If you are not a fanboy, why is it that your sole purpose here at AT/DT is to defend the iPhone without facts or logic? yes, same crap in your other posts as well.

You sir are both a fanboy and a troll. Buh bye.

All told the iPhone represented 1.8% of handsets sold in the US in July.
