Apple gives itself a pat on the back

It's been a crazy two and a half months for Apple's iPhone. Crowds of people lined up to plunk down $499 and $599 respectively for the 4GB and 8GB iPhones in late June. Apple's iPhone was such a hot item at launch that over 525,000 were sold within the first three days of availability.

After the initial rush, sales cooled off for Apple's iPhone. Some analysts noted that Apple's drastic $200 price cut for the iPhone (which was later somewhat rectified for early iPhone buyers) was due to poor sales.

Apple, however, begs to differ and today proudly announced that the one millionth iPhone was sold yesterday.

“One million iPhones in 74 days—it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season.”

Apple calls the iPhone the "best mobile Internet device ever;" a title that many may take issue with. Despite the opinions expressed around the web over the iPhone -- both positive and negative -- the impact that the device has had on the mobile phone industry and how we interface with mobile devices cannot be ignored.
