Lots of hits?
By rdeegvainl on 9/10/2007 7:11:38 AM , Rating: 2
I took me almost 5 minutes of trying to access this page, is that due to the amount of hits it's receiving or was their just a problem on the servers? anyone else have the same problem?

While a lot of time has passed by, I think DailyTech and AnandTech still share the same server or at least provider.

I notice quite often when the Anandtech page is down I can't always get to the Dailytech page either.

What RU talking about? I don't have any problem with either pages.

DR talking about long page loads. Obviously the issue is corrected now, or it is regionally based.

I didn't say it was a problem now. In the past when the Anandtech site was down I noticed the Dailytech site would also be down.

As the above poster said they are probably still hosted on the by the same provider, if not still on the same server.

We're at the same server farm as AnandTech. And we've hosed their network more than once (Go Drudge Report!)

Thanks for posting the link to this preview.

I apologize for the people who modded you down. They apparently don't realize that "Daily Hardware Reviews" is a page for users to find reviews of all sorts of cool tech products, including the latest cameras.

I for one am almost as excited about the D300 (and its preview on dpreview) as I am about Barcelona (and its reviews around the web).

Yikes... soon you'll need 220v power for your PC...

Or you need to only put them in one's kitchen where there often are 20A circuits (20A * 120V = 2.4 KVA).

Just don't run toaster on the same circuit....:-)

It's going to suck when everyone at a LAN party needs their own breaker.

Barcelona core voltage
By MetaDFF on 9/10/2007 11:06:37 AM , Rating: 2
Anybody notice that the 2.5 GHz Barcelona's core voltage (shown by CPU-Z in Anandtech's review) is quite high?

I mean 1.52 V on a 65 nm transistor seems pretty high. Not to second guess AMD's engineers, but it "feels" like they needed an extra voltage boost to get Barcelona up to 2.5 GHz.

Of course, it could also mean that AMD's 65 nm process is significantly different from Intel's thus putting 1.5 V across the transistor is actually ok.

I noticed this too, and was initially a little alarmed by it. This is probably one of the reasons they're not launching parts higher than 2.0GHz today. Hopefully we'll be seeing ~1.3V 2.5GHz parts by Christmas.

Of course, the reason (high) voltage ultimately matters is power consumption and long-term reliability. If AMD can make a 1.5V chip that does well in these three categories, then who cares if the voltage is high?

gcc performance
By mforce on 9/10/2007 10:55:37 AM , Rating: 2
What I'm really interested in is how does Barcelona handle compiling using gcc in Linux or other compilers on other platforms.
I remember seeing some tests about how long it takes to compile the Linux kernel or something. I think this might be interesting as gcc scales quite well I think and there are many people doing programming and stuff and it's probably important for them to have a CPU that compiles code fast.
