PC killer gaming app "Crysis" to ship November 16, 2007

Console gamers will have many, many amazing games to play this holiday season, but PC gamers will have an exclusive title to make the console crowd jealous. This game, of course, is Crysis – a title that has already wowed anyone who has seen video of screenshots of the gorgeous graphics.

Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Crytek have announced that Crysis will be hitting retail stores in North America and Europe on November 16, 2007.

“Crytek is constantly striving to push the boundaries of both game design and technology, while maintaining quality at the highest bar,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “We’re thankful to our fans for their support and patience, and we’re excited to bring them Crysis this year. It’s going to be worth the wait.”

Official system requirements and recommended specs have yet to be announced, but it is estimated that the lowest-spec PC that will run Crysis will consist of:

CPU: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8ghz
Graphics: Nvidia 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0)
RAM: 768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista
HDD: 6GB
Internet: 256k+
Optical Drive: DVD
Software: DX9.0c with Windows XP

With the recommended system expected to be:

CPU: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D)
Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent
RAM: 1.5Gb
HDD: 6GB
Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream)
Optical Drive: DVD
Software: DX10 with Windows Vista
Although Crysis won’t be the first game to carry with it DirectX 10 visuals, it could be the killer app to entice gamers to make the jump to Windows Vista. Unlike the other DirectX 10 titles Halo 2 and Shadowrun, Crysis will also run with DirectX 9 on Windows XP.

Valve still makes PC games and they come 1st and foremost.

Ubisoft has ruined the the R6 games. They did a great job with R6:3 and after that, all downhill. Now we have R6: Vegas, that shouldn't even be considered an R6 game at all. They were onto something with Critical Hour and from there, just jacked it all up with R6: Vegas.

Id. When have they turned console gaming company? Again, PC games first. Just cause they decided to take the PC game and port it over to console to make more cash, doesn't make them a console gaming company.

All of their latest games have been PC first, cept for some cellphone games from ID. Ubisoft is sucks, so who really cares that they are both a pc and console gaming company.

I didn't really like Gears of War and The Darkness sucks.

Also, PC games are easier to code, as the hardware/software doesn't change a whole lot between the years. We've been on WinXP and DX9 for how long? We're going to be on it for how much longer? Even then, how much does Vista change things? You can still run DX9 on it.

Where as a console, they are stuck trying to figure out how to code well for it. By the time they are proficient in it, it's already time for a new console. There's also the problem of working on porting the game between multiple consoles. Or getting stuck with a broken Unreal 3 engine.

Course developers also know that there's a limited number of companies willing to pay to make games for specific consoles. Not a whole lot of competition.

How many FPS, RTS, RPG, etc games come out for PC in any given year? I'm talking all of them, even the crappy ones. How many for console, even the crappy ones?
