Just when we thought that the fear or exploding lithium-ion
batteries had subsided, Gateway throws some more fuel on the fire. The
company announced today that it is recalling roughly 14,000 lithium-ion battery
packs that were included in Gateway 400VTX and 450ROG Series notebooks sold
between May 2003 and August 2003.
Gateway indicates that there have been four reported cases
of overheating with the batteries in question. No injuries have been reported
due to the battery failures.
The affected batteries can be identified by the following part
numbers: 6500760 or 6500761.
Gateway urges customers of the affected batteries to visit http://www.gateway.com/battery" rel="nofollow" rel="nofollow or
contact them directly at (800) 292-6813 between 7AM and 10PM to arrange for a
replacement battery pack.
