OLED keyboards pre-pre-order ... for real this time!

Good news for all who have been waiting patiently for this new toy.  May 20th is the day to mark your calendars for the pre-order availability of the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard

Beginning May 20th at 7 a.m. Eastern time, the Art. Lebedev Studio will publish the keyboard's detailed specifications and will start accepting limited pre-orders on a first come-first served basis.  

The production schedule for the $1,536 OLED keyboard is laid out for an expected two months.  The production of the first 200 keyboards is expected around the beginning of December, with another 200 keyboards expected around the end of December.  There will also be expected production of 400 keyboards in January of 2008.

The 114 key, 32x32 pixel full color OLED Optimus Maximus keyboard with replaceable and customizable keys is expected to be available winter of 2007.

I wouldn't expect much support from the developpers... Look at the numbers : 200 units at $1536? That's definatly not enough to justify any form of support.

Better odds from getting images, etc. from other players.

Look at the G15, very few developpers bothered to make a widget for the LCD screen, but the players took care of that.

There will probably a "default" gaming skin that will replace wasd with arrows or something like that.

Hopefully some other keyboard makers will do something like this at a lower price point. Also, high sales could push the numbers made up and the price down. Either might help to get support for this type of keyboard.

Of course patents may be in the way of this...
