Microsoft Xbox 360: "D'oh! Edition"

It looks as though the Xbox 360 Elite isn't the only new variant of Microsoft's gaming console. The company will also give away 100 Xbox 360s that are dressed up to promote "The Simpsons Movie."

Despite the fact that these are limited edition consoles, they won't be based on the newer Elite, but rather the older Premium system. That means no 120GB HDD and no HDMI output. Lucky winners will also miss out on getting a copy of the newly announced THE SIMPSONS GAME which isn't due to be released until later this year.

According to the press release, Microsoft will be giving away the 100 consoles in a "series of special events and promotions." Microsoft points fans to for further details, but the site has not yet been updated with additional information.

The Simpsons movie will hit the big-screen on July 27. The various Microsoft promotions will take place during the weeks leading up to the release of the movie.

Agreed. It also doesnt help that the show isnt a tenth as well written as it used to be.

For example, go watch "homer goes to college" and compare it to ANY episode in the past 5 years. Sad.

I seriously hope they brought back some of the old writers for the movie.

Absolutely agree. That alone should have been the reason to not make a movie out of it - it just cant be any good with todays writers and animators behind it.

Actually, i know for a fact that many of the animators doing the show have been working on it since maybe season 3 or 4 when Film Roman took over the animation duties. Also, many of those animators were put on the Movie. I know this because i was working at Film Roman up until about a month ago. I would say the animation quality is as good as it's ever been. If you watch some of the early episodes on DVD they are filled with tiny mistakes like color going outside the lines and stuff like that.

They haven't cut back on budget or anything. Once you have models for everything it's very easy to keep up the animation quality with decent artists.

As far as the show not being good anymore, i wouldn't go that far. IT's not as good as it used to be but it's still funny and better than Family Guy. THere are some stinker episodes that's for sure but also some great ones. FG has a few decent episodes but for the most part stinks. South Park was pretty much spot on. FG does the same kind of joke over and over often without any kind of compelling story line.

completely true, i think anyone that has ever appreciated the simpsons would agree. I think i still liked it even up to season 13, though it was more edgy by then. Now they're too edgy and ridiculous and sometimes lame, though i still watch it when there's nothing else to watch. The old episodes are so well done, amazing even, i can watch those over and over...
