Microsoft Xbox 360: "D'oh! Edition"

It looks as though the Xbox 360 Elite isn't the only new variant of Microsoft's gaming console. The company will also give away 100 Xbox 360s that are dressed up to promote "The Simpsons Movie."

Despite the fact that these are limited edition consoles, they won't be based on the newer Elite, but rather the older Premium system. That means no 120GB HDD and no HDMI output. Lucky winners will also miss out on getting a copy of the newly announced THE SIMPSONS GAME which isn't due to be released until later this year.

According to the press release, Microsoft will be giving away the 100 consoles in a "series of special events and promotions." Microsoft points fans to http://www.xbox.com for further details, but the site has not yet been updated with additional information.

The Simpsons movie will hit the big-screen on July 27. The various Microsoft promotions will take place during the weeks leading up to the release of the movie.

I still don't get why it took Simpons over 14 years before they made an actual movie.

Not that I care, never was into it anyway. Family Guy FTW

There was no market for non-Disney, animated movies during the golden years of the Simpsons. It took a huge ramp up from Pixar, Dreamworks, etc., to create the mass market demand we see today.

But I agree with you: I think the Simpsons missed the boat by 4-5 years. They could have really capitalized on their once dominant following. Now they have to compete with every other animated show that slaps 3 normal episodes together and puts it on the big screen.

Which full length Pixar flick is not affiliated with Disney?

Lol, doesn't Disney own Pixar?

Dosne ows Pixar sinca last year, but not before. They've had just distribution agreement for long time (since 1993 AFAICR). Pixar movies' scenarios and creation were independent from Disney.

I never looked at Family Guy the same after South Park's episode about it. Ha ha.

I still laugh my ass off watching both. Unfortunately Family Guy isn't as good as South Park when it comes to regularity of new episodes.

I hear ya. SP pretty much ripped FG a new one. I was really into FG during its first run, but I find the new stuff less funny and more edgy, whereas SP continues to do both extremes very well.

SP FTW.

The Simpsons have been irrelevant since 1996. :P I don't exactly remember when I stopped being entertained by The Simpsons, but if I've got a half hour to kill, I'd rather do anything else than watch The Simpsons.

BTW Brandon,
Very funny play-on words: D'oh = dough = money. If it wasn't intentional, oh well, but this is certainly a "cash-in edition".

The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace is one of the funniest ones around and that was Season 10. The make-up shotgun, recliner with a toilet built in and the good old electric hammer...hilarious.

Agreed. It also doesnt help that the show isnt a tenth as well written as it used to be.

For example, go watch "homer goes to college" and compare it to ANY episode in the past 5 years. Sad.

I seriously hope they brought back some of the old writers for the movie.

Absolutely agree. That alone should have been the reason to not make a movie out of it - it just cant be any good with todays writers and animators behind it.

Actually, i know for a fact that many of the animators doing the show have been working on it since maybe season 3 or 4 when Film Roman took over the animation duties. Also, many of those animators were put on the Movie. I know this because i was working at Film Roman up until about a month ago. I would say the animation quality is as good as it's ever been. If you watch some of the early episodes on DVD they are filled with tiny mistakes like color going outside the lines and stuff like that.

They haven't cut back on budget or anything. Once you have models for everything it's very easy to keep up the animation quality with decent artists.

As far as the show not being good anymore, i wouldn't go that far. IT's not as good as it used to be but it's still funny and better than Family Guy. THere are some stinker episodes that's for sure but also some great ones. FG has a few decent episodes but for the most part stinks. South Park was pretty much spot on. FG does the same kind of joke over and over often without any kind of compelling story line.

completely true, i think anyone that has ever appreciated the simpsons would agree. I think i still liked it even up to season 13, though it was more edgy by then. Now they're too edgy and ridiculous and sometimes lame, though i still watch it when there's nothing else to watch. The old episodes are so well done, amazing even, i can watch those over and over...

If it weren't for the Simpson's, Family Guy wouldn't have half of their episodes. Don't get me wrong, the show is funny, but some of the jokes and storylines are straight jacked from the Simpson's. Although the Simpson's never had a dog addicted to cocaine...

Are you kidding me? There's a reason South Park dedicated an episode to destroying this piece of crap.
