Dell's Dimension E521 along with a few other models bring back Windows XP
Dell will once again offer XP on home PC and notebook models

Dell will again offer the Windows XP operating system due to high customer demand on the company's community feedback forum, IdeaStorm.  Dell, like most major PC manufacturers stopped selling Windows XP licenses with its PCs after the launch of Windows Vista.

By the end of March 2007, Dell only offered two computer models that home users could order with XP preinstalled rather than Vista -- many business PCs and notebooks still came with XP as an option.

Dell's IdeaStorm web site launched as a platform for consumers to be able to tell Dell what they want to see from the company in the future.  More than 11,000 votes flooded in demanding that Dell offer XP on home products again.

"We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings," the company blogged on IdeaStorm.

Customers can now choose between XP Home or Professional on six models -- Dell Inspiron 1405, 1705, 1505, 1501; Dell Dimensions E520 and Dell E521.

Dell's IdeaStorm is also responsible for Dell's stance to bring Linux to its PCs and notebooks.

I always believed in this "Idea"

Its your money-You decide !
You decide what hardware & software go into your computer-

"You get what you want, because You am paying for it".

I think all desktop/laptop vendors should bring in such a platform.

Its good for the companies PR,marketing/sales,communication,
market research etc.
Such platforms inspire brand loyality & gives the vendors
an "IDEA" whats in demand.

From the buyer point of view such communications break the barrier between the buyer & seller.
Atleast "somebody" is listening to YOU on the other side.

KristopherKubicki of Dailytech for example puts the most
essential stuff in D.T. website-the personal touch & communications.
He through the comment system responds to your comments-
gives you the impression that he cares & involved just as much as we are in 2 way process.

But I think its just Dell's PR bullshit..

Reason for Dell starting to offer XP based systems again?

It is because they have got sales going down. They lost market share..

IDC and Gartner reports show that personal computer sales for Dell continued to fall in the first quarter for overall global sales. Dell worldwide shipments fell 6.9 percent since the first quarter of 2006, IDC reports indicate. Overall, the U.S. market has been the biggest problem for Dell -- PC shipments dropped 14.4 even though the overall PC market grew a total of 3.6 percent.
