Intel's quad-core receives a 1333 MHz front-side bus upgrade

Intel plans to refresh its Conroe-based dual-core processors in Q3’2007. The planned Conroe refresh includes a faster 1333 MHz front-side bus for the dual-core processor. Intel’s latest roadmap unveils details of a front-side bus increase for its quad-core processors.

The quad-core 1333 MHz front-side-bus upgrade is initially limited to Intel’s Core 2 Extreme. Intel expects to debut its Core 2 Extreme QX6850 next quarter to the tune of 3.0 GHz, similar to the upcoming Core 2 Duo E6850. The Kentsfield 65nm core forms the basis of Intel’s Core 2 Extreme QX6850, as with its other quad-core products.

Aside from the front-side bus speed bump, the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 shares similar characteristics as the previously released QX6800. The new quad-core processor will have 8MB of L2 cache and support for Intel’s Virtualization, Enhanced Memory 64, XD bit technologies.

Expect the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 to arrive next quarter with pricing set at $999 per-unit, in 1,000-unit quantities. Intel also plans aggressive quad-core and dual-core price cuts in Q3’2007.

In defense of the $1000 cpu, i have to admint, those things are faster than sheitee..
is it worth it to spend that kind of money, well it depends...
I know people who will argue with a waitress over $2 extra for something he ordered, leave $1 tip, but drive away in a 40,000 car, with 5,000 in wheels, 5,000 in car stereo, etc,,,

It just depends on what suits you. me, i use 15k scsi drives, people alwaysss ask me why, EASY, the things are just that much faster... cost more, but performance is a issue with certain people. $1000 for a cpu, yet a good video card setup will run you >$1200,, and a CPU will outlast a GPU now adays.. Lets not go to the $300 power supplies??/??

Having used the 1st gen quad core, (HOLYYYYY SHEEIITTT), thta thing is fast..
MEANINg, that currently i have a 6600 core 2, and i can saturate that thing FAST with the things i do, and not even play a game. I want the quad core, and gonna get it.. i figure it will last me 2-3 years.. 1.5 years as main, and the rest as a server. BUT quad cores,

THAT is like having a 4 way, on your desktop.
Most benchmarks now, preformed by people dont really have the subsystem in place to fully take advantage of the cpu...
Like myself, (bare with me on this), on my old RIG, 3x 72gb 15k drives in a raid 0 config, that thing just ROCKED>!!!!

Now my new rig, (ebay is your friend),, i have a 40x72gb 15k SAN (purchased for $3000) which i use in my vmware server farm.. I allocated 200gb, to my workstation, and let me tell you, 40 drives, pumping STRAIGHT hardcore Disk IO.. is fast,, things that took hrs, 2 years ago, takes me mere seconds...

All this means== You get what you pay for.. and if you are smart, what you get, will make you more money...
if anyone says anything about my epenis ;)====
i write off everything , cd's, power, cables, you name it.. and time is money, faster i can do one project, certification, simulation, whatever,, faster i get paid and on to the next one... so in essence, you will pay for it one way or anoter..//

BTW, we ordered dual, quad core xeons, and WOWOWOWOWOWO.. i thought no-way, will it be that fast, but hence, it is..
