Toshiba adds three models to its 17" Satellite P100 gaming laptop range

Toshiba has announced three new models to its Satellite P100 range: the Satellite P100-ST9752, Satellite P100-ST9762 and Satellite P100-ST9772. The P100 line is aimed at serious gamers and starts at $1,999 USD.

All models feature Windows Vista Ultimate, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900GTX GPU, 17" LCD with TruBrite technology, Onyx Blue Metallic LCD lid, dual-mode touchpad, 5-in-1 media reader, a DVD-SuperMulti DL drive, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Harman/Kardon stereo speakers. The notebooks all measure 15.5" x 10.8" x 1.41" and weigh in at 7.1 pounds.

The Satellite P100-ST9752 features a Core 2 Duo T5600 processor (1.83GHz), 1440x900 display, 120GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive and 1GB of PC5300 DDR2 memory. The Satellite P100-ST9762 ups the ante with a Core 2 Duo T7200 processor (2.0GHz), 1680x1050 display, 160GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive and 1GB of PC5300 DDR2 memory. The range-topping Satellite P100-ST9772 brings in a Core 2 Duo T7200 processor, 1680x1050 display, 160GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive and 2GB of PC5300 DDR2 memory.

The Satellite P100-ST9752, Satellite P100-ST9762 and Satellite P100-ST9772 and will be priced at $1,999, $2,499 and $2,899 USD respectively and are available now.

Good performance, but..

I have a A100 series, with a C2D 2.0Ghz, 2GB ram, geforce 7600 go. For games, Vista, and anything that needs a lot of horsepower it is great.

One annoyance, is I get under 2 hours of battery. I know the 7600 is the culprit, and I did expect shorter life when choosing a model with a big video card. I am surprised as how much battery life dropped. An identical model from Toshiba except with a Intel GMA950, gets well over 3 hours.

All the more reason i wish external pci-e becomes a standard soon
U can have the best of both worlds.

But till then these laptops are killer.I'll get one of these once a directx 10 gpu which performs decently is released.

Same here - I am waiting for Direct X10 to come out on laptops before I buy.

I have been eyeing several Dells (I get a hefty discount on them from my work) but just cannot bite the bullet until DX10 and maybe reduced core size C2Ds are out.

External PCI-Express x16 is what I'm waiting for. Wish someone would do an article about how long it'll take for it to be implemented.

This model has a 160GB 5400rpm hard drive, as opposed to dailytech's 7200rpm. I didn't think they made 2.5" drives with 160GB at that spin at 7200rpm. And appearently I was right, Toshiba's website lists the drive as 5400rpm.

If there were a 7200 RPM 160GB notebook drive, that would be big news. But it has never been reported at DT?

all these laptops should come by default with 2GB of ram...

1GB on a "gaming laptop" runing Vista Ultimate? Crazy....crazy dumb that is....

Even better is to toss in two 2GB modules for 4GB total ram...the "sweet spot" of Vista. I believe CORSAIR makes some 2GB PC2 5300 DDR2 modules....

2x2GB is extremely expensive. What I'd like to see is a laptop with 4x1GB. Toshiba is a big enough customer that it could get a custom design like that.

In any case, they should come with 2x1GB standard, and Toshiba shouldn't try to charge $500 for a second 1GB module that you can install yourself. Of course that won't happen, because they make a lot of money doing that (most people don't want to install their own RAM, so Toshiba gets to charge them big bucks without losing us as customers)

looking for a good machine myself, i want something with a bit of grunt, DVI out, but then is simple to just pack away by folding the lid and taking it home with me.

this fits the bill nicely, though with Santa Rosa just around the corner, and hopefuly scaled down G80 mobile GPU's im not sure its worth buying these unless you absolutely cannot wait.
