Apple says its set-top box taking longer than expected to perfect
DailyTech previously reported that Apple's much anticipated Apple TV was going through some refining in terms of its operating system. Originally, the unit was not even suppose to make an appearance at MacWorld 2007, but it eventually did make its way on stage during Steve Jobs' keynote.
Originally, the Apple TV was slated to be released by the end of February, but Apple this week pushed the release date for sometime mid-March. According to Apple, it is taking a few weeks to iron out some undisclosed problems with the unit, although by this time, there should no longer be any hardware issues left -- market availability is only two short week away. Apple PR spokeswoman Lynn Fox said "wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March."
While Apple works on getting it set-top box ready, Cisco is also working on its Apple TV competitor. Cisco's device will be able to do exactly what the Apple TV is capable of and will also be ale to grab media content from Wi-Fi enabled phones and other hand-helds. Cisco did not release details as to when its device will be officially announced or become available.
