Apple says its set-top box taking longer than expected to perfect

DailyTech previously reported that Apple's much anticipated Apple TV was going through some refining in terms of its operating system. Originally, the unit was not even suppose to make an appearance at MacWorld 2007, but it eventually did make its way on stage during Steve Jobs' keynote.

Originally, the Apple TV was slated to be released by the end of February, but Apple this week pushed the release date for sometime mid-March. According to Apple, it is taking a few weeks to iron out some undisclosed problems with the unit, although by this time, there should no longer be any hardware issues left -- market availability is only two short week away. Apple PR spokeswoman Lynn Fox said "wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March."

While Apple works on getting it set-top box ready, Cisco is also working on its Apple TV competitor. Cisco's device will be able to do exactly what the Apple TV is capable of and will also be ale to grab media content from Wi-Fi enabled phones and other hand-helds. Cisco did not release details as to when its device will be officially announced or become available.

Seems like they'll be at odds with Apple for quite a while if they keep doing this.

They had their own version of the iPhone and we all know how that turned out..

Considering Cisco actually has an iphone on the market and apple doesnt - I think it turned out just fine for them.

Cisco please use more format and you will win :) ... get my sale anyways. I need... XVID , DIVX , OGG , MKV , H246 , Mpeg 4 , Mepg 2 ... ect : )

Also make sure the operating system is very easy to use and cut back on DRM crap.

Does mac support drm or not, either way heres my point.
A world without Drm is like a world without communist countries. Who invented that crap? Most digital content is so under worth that these companies expect you to go nuts over it. I say don't let them.
