The chief architect of Pentium 4 is in charge of Intel's GPU project

Last month the tech world was thrust into widespread speculation over Intel's decision to re-enter the discrete graphics market. Intel is actively recruiting employees for its new Visual Computing Group, or VCG, previously known as the "Larrabee group.”

According to Beyond3D, the Chief Architect of Intel’s VCG is Douglas M. Carmean. Carmean has been with Intel for 13 years, “working on IA-32 processors from the 80486 to the Intel Pentium 4 processor.” Intel also states that Carmean was a key architect behind the definition of the Intel Pentium 4 processor. In addition, Carmean also has experience working with ROSS Technology, Sun Microsystems, Cypress Semiconductor and Lattice Semiconductor.

Carmean has been travelling to various universities across the United States giving a presentation titled, “Future CPU Architectures -- The Shift from Traditional Models.” On the seminar information page, Intel labels Carmean as its Principal Architect with Intel's Desktop Products Group, though this information appears to be dated.

Intel's VCG website no longer claims the project is oriented for discrete GPUs, though Intel has off-the-record confirmed this fact to several publications.

How rediculous.

this is the same thinking that put pci-e graphics on your board. "the new gfx boards will be able to utilized your system memory for enhanced performance! agp cannot do that!"

yay. agp8x still untapped. yay. ddr2 minor speed bump. yay. forced to go from 939 agp, 939 pcie, am2 pcie, 775 pcie.. yet same speed as 939 agp. lol.

gfx people and cpu people should just remain separate. I love the first comment! deserves a 7 score. gfx cards are not integral to the system. they can be swapped out and sold off, given away. cpu's are meant to remain. I cant imagine swapping out chip after chip. what about all-in-wonder? sli/xfire? so many things just make this retarded for all but a CASH REGISTER AT FRIDAYS.

would you like some apple pie with tha-at.
