8GB of Memory Stick PRO Duo
Double the space for double the fun

All the Sony proprietary aficionados out there will be pleased to learn that the 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo is on display at CES. This news will likely be of great interest to those with Sony Cyber-shots and PSPs, as for devices such as those, no amount of memory ever seems to be enough. Furthermore, beginning this year, a Memory Stick slot will also be standard on all new 2007 Handycam camcorder models.

“The life of the Memory Stick format spans from the dawning of the digital camera to the emergence of today’s high-definition video and gaming products,” said Mike Kahn, senior manager for Memory Stick Media at Sony Electronics. “Throughout all of these advances in the consumer electronics industry, Memory Stick media has remained a constant source of compact and portable flash memory.”

According to Kahn, the 8GB MSX-M8GS Memory Stick model will store approximately 1,500 images in 10-megapixel, fine mode; more than 18 hours of video at 768Kb per seconds in MPEG4 compression; and can hold a collection about 2,000 songs in the MP3 format at 128 kbps with an average of four minutes per song.

Those who want all the added space on a single card will have to pay top dollar – the 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo media card will be available in February for about $300. For reference, 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo cards can be had today for under $100.

Not gonna happen playboy. As long as Sony makes digital cameras and mp3 players, memory sticks will be with us. I just wish they would stop making different version of memory sticks. 1st gen. memory stick are compatible with very few, if any, current generation products that use memory sticks. But what-the-hell, I will follow Sony to the bowels of hell.

Enjoy the ride, and waste of your money.
