New PDA and Smartphone's galore
Windows Mobile 24/7
has come across a roadmap of HTC’s early 2007
roadmap which was
originally posted on Russian website
. Early 2007 bring four new HTC PDA and Smartphone’s. The new phones include the HTC codenames
and an unnamed update to the existing Startrek.
The new HTC
appears to be a slightly updated
HTC Hermes which is sold by Cingular as the 8525
. The HTC Kaiser also adds a GPS receiver. Aside from the GPS receiver the HTC
retains the 400 MHz OMAP processor, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and QVGA screen of the HTC Hermes.
On the value side of things is the new HTC
. This model sports a 200 MHz OMAP processor, 2.8” screen, Bluetooth and a thin design. As the HTC
is a value model it lacks additional features such as Wi-Fi support. There’s no mention if the HTC
will be 3G compatible though.
On the Smartphone side of things is the new HTC
. This model is based on the previously released HTC Vox. Nevertheless, the HTC
adds support for 3G networks and a GPS receiver. While it has a slide out QWERTY keyboard, the HTC
is still a Smartphone and lacks a touch screen display.
Lastly is an unnamed update to the HTC Startrek. The latest update adds a GPS receiver to the Startrek. If the update is anything similar to what the Hermes is slated to receive, all other specifications will remain the same.
It is unknown when these phones will hit the market; though expect them to arrive in Asian and European countries first.

While I'm a big HTC fan (after owning and using an O2 XDA IIs for 3 years, and an 02 II prior) I think HTC has lost the plot in terms of design...
For the life of me, i cant work out what has happened to the HTC design team. I really dislike the plastic feel to the latest 2006 models, and it looks like they're going to continue into 2007 with the same.
What happened to the robust metalic feel like the 02 XDA IIs and IIi series?? These were sleak, fast and very nice feeling Pocket Phones, and now i think HTC have tried to blend Blackberry and PocketPC, but i dont think they have done themselves any favours.
I wish all the best for HTC, personally i dont think they're up and coming products give you any more functionality than the older models. I think I'm going to stick with my O2 XDA IIs for a little while longer, until the competition (such as the maker of the O2 Atom) release their 2007 range.
