 Gateway CX210S Tablet PC
New HP Tablet PC uncovered in Vista product brochure and Gateway offers an $899 Tablet
It appears that Microsoft has jumped the gun a bit in
revealing Hewlett-Packard's upcoming HP Pavilion tx1000
Tablet PC. Microsoft distributed roughly 5,000 Vista Launch Kits which featured
a number of items including a 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Mini and a booklet entitled:
"Windows Vista Partner Stories."
The booklet is the key in revealing detail's for HP's new
Vista tablet which packs some nice media-centric features. The 12.1"
tablet comes with the requisite fingerprint reader along with a 5-in-1 media
reader, DVD burner with LightScribe,
dual headphones jacks, Altec Lansing speakers, mini remote control, dual
omni-direction remotes, optional HP Pavilion webcam and optional integrated WWAN.
Information on dimensions including weight, pricing and
availability was not available for the new tablet. Stay tuned for DailyTech's CES 2007 coverage for more
information on this tablet and numerous other tech items which will be unveiled
in Las Vegas.
In other Tablet PC news, Gateway has trimmed
the price of one its popular models: the CX210S.
Gateway is now offering a $200 instant discount on the 14.1" tablet which
brings the final price down to $899.
Your $899 will get you a Core Duo T2050 processor (1.6GHz),
512MB of 667MHz DDR2 memory, 80GB SATA HDD, CD-RW/DVD combo drive, 7-in-1 media
reader, 802.11a/b/g wireless and an 8-cell battery. The CX210S comes with
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition but is eligible for a Windows Vista upgrade.
If there is one downside to this new Gateway deal, it's that
the tablet weighs in at a hefty 6.84
pounds with the 8-cell battery and optical drive. That's not exactly light
for a device that you'd want to hold in your hands and write on.
"Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine." -- Bill Gates
