A small number of A530s and A540s run the risk of short-circuit

Canon is recalling a small number of PowerShot A530 and A540 digital cameras that run the risk of short-circuit which leads to overheating. Affected cameras can suffer from extremely hot battery doors and drastically reduced battery life.

Canon warns that the spring that holds the battery door on affected camera can become so hot that it could possibly cause burns.

The PowerShot A530 and A540 cameras affected by the recall have serial numbers that start with "21", "22", "23" and "24". The serial number can be found at the bottom of the camera. Canon will repair all models affected by the recall free of charge no matter if the camera is in warranty or not.

To make arrangements to have your camera repaired, customers are urged to contact Canon's toll-free call center at 1-800-828-4040.

Well let's not forget the infamous CANON E17 error and from my experience Canon cameras haven't been too good to me.

My PS A510's batteries sometimes lasted very, very little time, and even new batteries wouldn't work, when exchanged, no matter what. Then a day or so later, for no apparent reason it started working again. Very, very annoying!

In the end I had enough of it and RMA-ed it. They changed the flash unit and the problem was solved, but then I found a new one. The settings (like IE FOCUS on/off, MUTE on/off, etc) would reset themselves when I would mount it on a tripod, and sometimes for no apparent reason. Well warranty is gone and I have to live with that, but its also very annoying when the camera starts to beep, when you least want it to, and when it starts to select the focus point on it's own, stuff like that. From what I heard that Flash unit thingie was quite common. So yea, Canon ain't all that great.
