Five years later OCZ Technology is ready to reenter the graphics card market

OCZ Technology is expected to reenter the graphics card market. The last OCZ Technology branded graphics card was based on NVIDIAs flagship at the time—the GeForce 3. That was five years ago and a lot has changed in the graphics industry since then.

Little is known about the upcoming OCZ Technology graphics card. However, OCZ Technology has confirmed the upcoming graphics card will be based on NVIDIAs previously released GeForce 8800 GTX graphics processor. OCZ Technology’s previous graphics endeavor featured higher clocked memory with a fancy cooler and ram-sinks.

While OCZ Technology hasn’t confirmed the details of the GeForce 8800 GTX based graphics card, Alex Mei, VP of Marketing and Communications claims "We are very concerned about memory chip quality on the cards and similar to our PC memory offerings we will screen the memory and complete built up cards for better performance.”

OCZ Technology is expected to unveil its new graphics card at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2007 in Las Vegas, NV.

The more choices the better. Some people just love to be early adopters and have the latest greatest. And they don't mind paying top dollar either.

As a side note I wrote one of the writers about a lot of typos and incorrect grammar making it into the articles and got this response.

Yes, it's called a typo. There is a difference between a typographical error and a grammatical error.

PLEASE LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM! Starting now I guess. Or if you don't know how to keep the piss out of our corn flakes in the morning, then you need to hire someone who can. If I can keep the stick out of my ass, why can't you? I don't think that I am special. Lots of people can read and point out typographical mistakes. But your rash comments make you look like a JERK.

I too find the abundance of grammatical and typographical errors somewhat alarming, but I think its a small price to pay for the speed with which these great articles are published.

I too think that OCZ is spreading itself too much. They're a very dedicated company so hopefully the quality will remain high. It just seems like they're turning into Thermaltake, but that's beside the point. I actually didn't know that OCZ made graphics cards in the past. That was before they became synonymous with quality so it's a logical step to reenter now with the reputation that's been built. Since OCZ is a hardcore memory company I'm almost positive they'll be binning the DRAM on their overclocked series. OCZ may become the Gainward of the US.

If I remember correctly, at this point ram has no need for water cooling, and it is simply a gimmick. a 8800GTX on the other hand... could make real use out of it

well the way I see it is if OCZ were to start out with budget cards then they'd probably be written off early as a company that doesn't cater to the graphics enthusiast; they probably just want to start off as cutting edge as they can in order to attract sales and attention. Then if the high end cards prove to be profitable then they might make a foray into the budget arena which I daresay has more brands than the high end parts do.

For example, just look at newegg.com or go into your local compusa and you'll see all sorts of brands that offer budget video cards, but as far as I know far fewer offer the latest and greatest. Like for the latest and greatest you've got evga, bfg, ati, sapphire, xfx, and so on but for the lower end cards you've got a whole lot more brands offering the same exact thing.

That's how I see the situation at least.

And as for the "do you think you are cool with that?" I must say if you base your social status or personal worth as a human being around your computer specs then you really need to learn what things in life are more important.

LoL. Like I asked Slickr, are you judging just PC enthusiasts, or enthusiasts in general? What makes us different? No one said you have to obsessively purchase these cards. You need only do so if its within your budget. And no, I doubt people use them just to win the acceptance of their peers. I, like others, choose to think of it as one of many ways of expressing interest in hardcore gaming overall.

Are you suggesting that every market has no need of its enthusiast line of products? Or is it just owners of high-end graphics cards that are "crazy"? What about cars? or sports gear? Or Musicians?

Just because you don't see the wisdom in aquiring top-of-the-line parts doesn't mean there is no value to them. Aside from the obvious performance leverage faster vid cards grant, there is also a degree of prestige inherent in owning a high-end product.

Many a gamer would love to flaunt a pair of 8800's at a major LAN party, just like a Shelby GT owner wouldn't hesitate to rev his engine for onlookers once in a while.

In any case, I can definitely see how investing so much $ in computer gear might appear benign, but I think calling enthusiasts "crazy" is a bit extreme.
