The original black label Tekken 2
Now you can use your state of the art gaming devices to play games from 10 years ago

Drawing upon its decade-long history in gaming, SCEA has launched an initial lineup of five classic PlayStation titles that can be downloaded via the PlayStation Network and played on the PSP system.

The following first and third-party PlayStation titles can now be purchased for $5.99 from the PlayStation Store accessed through the PS3 system and played on the PSP system: Cool Boarders, Crash Bandicoot, Hot Shots Golf 2, Syphon Filter and Tekken 2.

Additional first and third-party PlayStation titles will be added on an ongoing basis to the PlayStation Store, with a second batch of PlayStation titles slated for release later this month.

"Downloadable PlayStation emulated games on the PSP is just the beginning, but it underscores our vision for leveraging the wide breadth of content that's available from the PlayStation brand, and delivers value to gamers well beyond the initial purchase of their PS3 and PSP," said Peter Dille, senior vice-president product marketing of SCEA. "We built every system with a hard disk drive and offer every customer free access to the PlayStation Store so they can experience the full extent of the PlayStation library. We'll offer additional PlayStation games to the PlayStation Store on a regular basis."

The U.S. PlayStation Store’s lineup of downloadable games differs from the one offered in Japan. In addition to having Tekken 2 and Hot Shots Golf 2 that we have, the Japanese store offers Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Jumping Flash, Arc the Lad and Mister Driller.

It downloads to your memory card on the PSP and plays from there. This will definitely be awesome once they get more games released for it. Just because they are games from 10 years ago doesnt meant they arent fun. Now they just need to make it so the PSP can go to the PS Store to do direct downloading, because as of now you have to have both PS3 and PSP to get the games in the first place, I know, dumb.

To Sony's credit, they have already stated that they are planning to cut out the need for a PS3 for PSP emulation in a future firmware revision. How soon is another thing entirely.

Why they'd need to use the PS3 in the first place is still beyond my comprehension.
