Reports from the Official Xbox Magazine say that Alan Wake is now a 2008 game, developer stays mum

Alan Wake is one of those games that constantly flies under the radar, but is something everyone eagerly anticipates. It’s no Halo 3, but it’s certainly something Xbox 360 and PC gamers are both looking forward to.

As a fan of Remedy’s work every since the developers demonstrated an early version of Max Payne to me at the E3 G.O.D. Lot of yesteryear, I’ve had my eye constantly on all things Alan Wake. Sadly, today my eye caught several reports on the Web stating that the psychological action thriller won’t be released until 2008.

Neither Microsoft nor Remedy has officially commented, but the report stems from the Official Xbox Magazine. It would be inaccurate to call this a delay, as it’s not word from the publisher or developer, and neither ever committed to a firm release date.

When asked to comment about the reports on the news that Alan Wake may be pushed to 2008, Remedy’s Petri Jarvilehto had this to say:

Yes. We haven't announced anything on the release date. Once we do, you'll definitely hear about it here.

I'm really happy with all the recent progress O:-)

So the real word will have to come from either Microsoft or Remedy, but you can be sure that development on this title will not be rushed out the door.

Microsoft isn't the only one who is eagerly anticipating the game for its systems. Intel also sees Alan Wake as a 'killer app' as it demonstrated the game at IDF 2006 running on Core 2 Quad with impressive results.

After enjoying the Max Payne games as much as I did I can't wait to dive into this game, the HDR lighting effects look amazing! Just hope there will be at least a demo in 2007.

Ditto. Everything about this game excites me greatly. The Intel conference video was amazing. I just hope that when this game is finally released, I'll be able to run it.

keep in mind that the game was originally demonstrated running in a real-time 720p resolution on one of the early ATi x1800 cards.

Considering the relationship that Remedy had/has with ATi, this is probably bigger news for AMD than Intel. By the time it comes out, AMD's next revision of Athlon64 will probably be on the market...

so for Intel to be demoing it this early as an example of their processor performance? I dunno, seems kind of dumb. 2 years is a long time in game development.

The game is extremely multi-threaded, so Intel using it to show off their quad-core processor makes perfect sense. AMD better have something up their sleeves or Intel will run away with the enthusiast market. "Quad FX" was a total flop.

Look at it this way (currently).

Top of the line quad FX setup cpus will run u a grand (soon im sure we will see 900 or 850 for a set).

Motherboards should hit around 300 soon.

Which cheapest ive seen the quad intel for is around $1500 processor only. Say another 300 for MB

Your looking at around 500-600 cheaper for the amd setup.

Yes high end comps are gonna go intel but alot will go amd's way just to have quad core with 2 seperate processors. Kiddies seem to like to say dual cpu with 2 cores on each. Go figure...

MSRP for the QX6700 is $999, Newegg is ripping off at $1,599. MOBO can cost as little as ~$100 but more realistically at ~$150-$200.

Now for the AMD setup it costs a minimum of $600 for a set of the slowest FX-7xs, another $300-$400 for the motherboard. Then you have to buy two sets of memory for each of the CPUs. Finally you got a 60%-70% increase in power consumption.

This game was shown at the Intel conference on a Kentsfield and a un-named Nvidia graphics solution , so this is really not showcasing ATI/AMD.

Also I would like to point out that the only leak, if that, states for the Xbox, it says nothing of the PC.

Actually, now that I think about it, the blog post states that neither Remedy nor Microsoft have said anything about the release date other than "they'll announce it". Those "reports" on the web are probably just rumors and speculation. Also, as Chillin pointed out, perhaps the so-called 2008 release date is for the Xbox 360 version, if even.

I would take this information with a grain of salt. It is, after all, a blog post and not an article. Of course, I'm just really eager to play this game, and a hopeful 2007 release date sounds a lot better than a vague 2008. :-P

I haven't even heard of this game until now; but the graphics . . . Wow. Just wow. This might just be the game that gets me to upgrade my computer again (the only ones I play now are UT2004 and Far Cry; don't want to but a 360 for GoW - the Wii is just too fun).
