Intel announces new CPUs at ITU Telecom World
Intel today
announced its new NetStructure MPCBL0050 single board computer blade server,
new low voltage dual-core Xeons and Intel Carrier Grade Server TIGW1U at ITU
Telecom World. The new NetStructure MPCBL0050 is Intel’s first Core micro
architecture powered blade server and are equipped with dual dual-core Xeon LV
processors. The NetStructure MPCBL0050 is catered towards companies that
require telecommunication tasks. Telecommunication tasks include everything
from call control to billing customers.
Also announced at ITU Telecom World were new dual-core Intel Xeon LV 5138 and
LV 5128 processors. The new Xeon LV 5138 and LV5128 processors are based on
Intel’s Core-derived Woodcrest. The processors are clocked at 2 GHz and 1.86
GHz respectively. The Xeon LV processors offer lower thermal data power ratings
compared to regular Xeon 5100 series processors. Intel doesn’t reveal the TDP of
the Xeon LV 5138 or LV 5128 disappointingly. Nevertheless, if the higher
clocked Xeon LV 5148 is used as a reference, expect the TDP to be similar to
the 40 watt TDP of the Xeon LV 5148.
Lastly Intel announced its Carrier Grade Server TIGW1U. The Intel Carrier Grade
Server TIGW1U is powered by a previously announced Intel Xeon LV5148 clocked at
2.33 GHz. Intel doesn’t reveal much detail on the Carrier Grade Server TIGW1U
though.
Intel expects to ship NetStructure MPCBL0050 SBC and Carrier Grade Server T1GW1U
in Q1’2007. Pricing for the two servers is expected to start at $5,169 for the
MPCBL0050 and $1,550 for the TIGW1U. Intel Xeon LV 5138 and LV 5128 processors
will be available this quarter for $617 and $412 in quantities of 1,000,
respectively.
