XPS 710

UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC
Dell reveals to new products for the high-end gamer

Dell has released two products updates for the discerning gamer out there. With Intel having now officially announced its quad-core processors, Dell has introduced its quad-core XPS 710 gaming desktop which can be equipped with Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor.

According to Dell, the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 enables the XPS 710 to provide up to 55% better performance than the previous Core 2 Extreme dual-core processor used in the XPS 700. CNET put those claims to the test and found that the XPS 710 wasn't exactly topping the performance charts in comparison to its dual-core rivals from Gateway and ABS.

The Windows Vista Premium-Ready XPS 710 starts at $3,699 for a Jet Black chassis, Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, 750W power supply and Dell's 2-year limited XPS warranty. For $100 more, you can upgrade to the Special Edition Formula Red model with a 1kW power supply.

The other new addition to the Dell product mix is the UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30" widescreen monitor. While Dell says that the majority of the monitors on the market feature a color gamut that covers 72% of the NTSC color space, the new UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC ups that to 92%. Dell achieves this distinction by using a Wide Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Lighting (W-CCFL) backlight.

Not be left out are the display's generous 2,560 x 1,600 (WQXGA) resolution, 8ms response time, integrated 9-in-2 media reader and four USB 2.0 ports. The UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC will be available as an option for some select XPS models by the end of the year or the monitor may be purchased alone for $1,699.

Nice monitor...

I wonder how that compares to the Apple with the same specs. And what is the 8ms response time, GtG?

My guess is its priced similar, but the Dell will have better Video card options. the LCD's are speced the same... Pretty sure they both use the same panel.

I am fairly certain that they do use the same panels as the apple cinema displays.

Too expensive

I have been using a Dell Precision 390 for my gaming needs. These things are awesome. Intel 975X chipset, supports up to 8GB DDR2 memory, come with a a 3yr warranty, and XP Pro. The case is, IMO, one of the best-looking and best-designed I've ever seen. Of course the Quadro got pulled for a gaming card, a 7900 GTO, and mine is also equipped with an E6400 and 2GB of DDR2-667. Solid system, and stable as hell.

You really like these cases? I mean they are alright, but if you want to see some really really nice cases I suggest you check out Lian-Li or Silverstone. I am crazy about the Tj-07 but my PC-v1000b (I think that's what it is) is also very very nice.

Oh yes, that's true, more expensive cases compare well. I should have been more clear. But compared to say, the Thermaltake Tsunami, Cooler Master Centurion and Cavalier cases, and Antec cases, Dell's puts their's to shame in a lot of regards. There are some limitations, like a limit of two internal hard drives. But in regards to features like the hard drive encasings, the design of the optical drive bays, even just the plastic blue "bar" that gives physical support for heavier video cards, most mainstream cases cannot compare. But Dell does have an advantage, mass production.

It's true, Silverstone and Lian-Li will run you a pretty penny. Unfortunately my experiences with Antec and other less expensive cases has left me with a sour taste in my mouth (and no I didn't chew on them :P). I only paid 180 for my PC-v1000 which doesn't see like a whole lot more than 120 or 150 for a flagship Antec or Cooler Master! To each their own of course. Most people would rather put that $60 toward a higher-end component like RAM or a cpu.

As far as these Dell cases go - I've never owned a Dell so it's hard for me to say. We all know Dell has a reputation though...

I would have to agree that the insides of Dell's cases are VERY nice. My only complaint about the Precision 390 case is that you can't* remove both sides of the case, so you can't secure drives from both sides. Also, the 3.5" external bays are a proprietary size, so you can't flush-mount a floppy or card reader in front...

*brave souls only...

The 710 is quad-core

OK, I was confused because of the way that Intel is naming the chips. Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700. I guess QX is the indication that it is quad core.

Dell's new thirty-incher

I'm estimating the panel Dell is using this time is from samsung which means 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400cd/m² brightness and about the response time being 6ms for Samsung 305T maybe its actually the same as Dell's just reporting it as 8ms.I hope as for the inputs there is something more than just one DVI.

It would be nice if anyone can confirm

New vid card?

Are they including the 8800GTX and GTS as new cards as well? If they are refreshing the lines, they might as well wait until they can put those puppies as available selections.

??? Is "tit" a slang word? Tech/it perhaps? It really IS it news. I read all the articles on the page and thought, "Hmmm, what clever names to use for porn links; they sound real but I can see the porn double entendra."

Sun's Surprising
Openness Bang & Olufsen and Samsung's stylish phone
PS3 only tempts me

But...They really are IT links!
