Software AMD Releases Catalyst 6.10

Another month, another release

AMD has released a new set of ATI Catalyst drivers for its Radeon line of graphics cards and integrated chipsets. This brings the Catalyst drivers up to version 6.10. This release adds official support for previously released ATI Radeon X1950 XTX, X1650 Pro and X1300 XT graphics cards, but not the Radeon X1650 XT and Radeon X1950 Pro.

Owners of the recently released ATI Radeon X1950 Pro graphics cards will have to rely on bundled drivers, though ATI does offer the same drivers online. Last month's Catalyst drivers did not support the recently released Radeon X1950 XTX.

This release finally integrates ATI’s previously released Chuck patch that allows HDR and anti-aliasing support in Bethesda Softworks’ Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Performance improvements are also seen in CrossFire configurations based on Intel’s 965 chipsets. Gains are estimated at 6.7% to 15.8% in 3DMark06, 3DMark05 and 3DMark03. A couple issues in 3DMark06, Anarch-Online, Black & White 2: Battle of the Gods, Commandos Strike Force, Godfather, Serious Sam 2 and World of Warcraft are also resolved.

As with the last few Catalyst driver releases, only DirectX 9 class graphics cards are supported including:
  • Radeon® X1950 XTX
  • Radeon® X1900 series
  • Radeon® X1800 series
  • Radeon® X1600 series
  • Radeon® X1300 series
  • Radeon® X850 series
  • Radeon® X800 series
  • Radeon® X700 series
  • Radeon® X600 series
  • Radeon® X550 series
  • Radeon® X300 series
  • Radeon® 9800 series
  • Radeon® 9700 series
  • Radeon® 9600 series
  • Radeon® 9650 series
  • Radeon® 9550 series
  • Radeon® 9500 series
Catalyst 6.10 drivers are available for download from the AMD ATI website for Windows XP, Windows XP MCE and Windows XP Professional x64.

write ATI releases Catalyst? I'm sure I'm not the only one who cringes every time he hears some variation of AMD Radeon or AMD Catalyst.

It throws me off too, but it is AMD Catalyst. I think it would help if the authors/journalists would use an intermediate term like AMD/ATi for the short term.

You'll be glad to know that the installer, CCC, and the drivers are still all ATI branded. :o)

I also agree with the above poster - calling it AMD/ATI or even just ATI would be more appropriate, especially considering that ATI is still a division of and a brand of AMD. So saying that "ATI released the drivers" is still correct.

"Silly" is often based on experience. Unfortunately, bad experience followed by poor branding/service expectations is enough to kill a customer.

It's all about brand equity, consumer loyalty, and service/product delivery. A successful company has got to manage all 3. Even more important in the case of takeovers. If you can't, don't expect to be a winner. How many takeovers have "failed"? (= did not realise the CEO's or his investment banker's expectations). Hundreds.

Personally, I shorted AMD stock and so far I'm winning. I've already made enough to buy that new Conroe Core 2 gizzmo. http://moneycentral.msn.com/detail/stock_quote?Sym...

I'm long AMD stock, and I'm winning as well...bought in again at an ASP of $19...

BTW, I should probably add that I've been long on AMD several times over the last few years, and I made enough to buy 2 houses with it...:)

Well AMD bought ATI they can call it whatever you want, I doubt a collection of nerds or geeks is going to change their advertising an public relation policies, unless they start loosing a lot of business because of your complaints.

You have no idea the amount of power the internet gave to us geeks....

Let me put it this way... Do you know when Obi One and Vader were fighting in Episode 4 and Obi One said he would not kill Vader for that would make him stronger? And then Vader killed Obi One and he became this powerfull ghost/spirit being...

Well... The Internet is a "series of tubes" that made us geeks as powerfull as those ghost/spirit things... understand?

The ATI signs at the Markham HQ have been removed, in place of them are AMD ones. :-\ It's something we all have to get used to.

yup, I've seen the AMD logo too yesterday ... that area had too many red sign anyway with theatis and cgis it looked like a redlight district ...

Wow please stop it with these comments. Every AMD releases an ATI product blog I've seen has some smart ass telling us it shouldn't be AMD. Get over it, they merged and now it's just AMD. So get used to it and stop whining.

Tested this out (though I run nVidia). I didn't have this issue, though I have to say I don't like AMD's site re-design in this aspect. Though I'm sure with the limited amount of time it's to be understood, hopefully something better will come along.
