Lite-On did not pull the plug on consumer optical disk drives

DigiTimes previously reported Lite-On was pulling out of the consumer optical disk drive and standalone DVD recorder market. This article incorrectly interpreted a Lite-On press release. Lite-On has issued a press release correcting the subject at hand. The press release states Lite-On will continue to ship consumer optical disk drives as it is the world’s second largest manufacturer. The previously released press release only affects Lite-On’s consumer standalone DVD recorder products.

Lite-On’s Director of its DVD recorder business unit, Mister Tony An’s official statement on the matter is:

We have to admit that retailer business is a big contributor to a negative profit of the DVD recorder Business Unit in Lite-On IT Corp, especially in the USA market. That is why we need to have a serious review on the current business model with each customer in different region. For any unhealthy business, in fact no matter it is Lite-On brand or private label/ODM business, Lite-On IT has to discontinue the projects or lead them to a profitable & healthy direction.

Internal 5.25" DVD recorders will continue to show up on store shelves.  Only set-top boxes  are really affected by this announcement.

Are you a total dumb ass? The first sentence of the article states that the original article came from Digitimes. I can't wait for you to enter the job market.

“Then they pop up and say ‘Hello, surprise! Give us your money or we will shut you down!' Screw them. Seriously, screw them. You can quote me on that.” -- Newegg Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng referencing patent trolls
