It seems as though no company (with the exception of
Hewlett-Packard) is immune to Sony battery recalls.
Yesterday, Gateway announced that it was recalling 35,000
batteries used in the following notebooks: CX200, CX210, E100M, M250, M255,
M280, M285, M465, M685, MP8708, NX260, NX510, NX560, NX860, NX100, MX1025,
MX6918b and MX1020j.
The batteries have been sold in Gateway notebooks since
September of 2005 and were available through direct and professional channels.
Since Gateway has joined the Sony Global Replacement
Program, the company will have no direct costs as a result of the recall
and customers of course will get free battery replacements.
With this latest announcement, the battery recall total now
approaches the 10 million mark. A for Sony's part in the whole matter, the
company has recently
stated that it is sorry for the whole ordeal.
