The new SCH-B600 will only be available to consumers in Korea

A new mobile phone destined for the Korean market will feature a 10-megapixel camera that includes a 3X optical and 5X digital zoom lens. Along with the camera, the Samsung SCH-B600 cell phone has Bluetooth, MP3 player, business card reader, and a TV-output. The SCH-B600 also has a 2.2-inch TFT-LCD display for users to watch live content through South Korea's TU Media satellite multimedia service. The SCH-B600 is also able to record video in 320-by-240 pixel resolution at 15 to 30 frames per second. The phone, however, carries a hefty price tag of $950.

Samsung's press release claims:

Samsung’s 10 megapixel camera phone (SCH-B600) is 6mm thinner and 10g lighter than the 7 megapixel camera phone (SCH-V770) and sets itself apart from its previous megapixel camera phones by combining mobile TV capability in Satellite standard.

The B600 offers the same level of picture-taking sophistication that a 10 megapixel digital camera offers. The camera function includes 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom.

Samsung hopes to stay at the front of mobile phone technologies and revolution with “the world's first 10 megapixel mobile phone.” Consumers first got a glimpse of the phone when it was unveiled during CeBIT in March.

Samsung is known for placing high megapixel cameras in its line of cell phones. In October 2004, the company launched a 5-megapixel camera phone to consumers in Asia. In November 2005, an 8-megapixel camera phone was released on the market.

10 megapixel phone

there's no point in upping the mexapixels for a phoe, its all in how big the physical lens is, not the quality. thats why its not practical to put anything bigger than 4 megapixel on a phone.

Like someone else said..."this is a camera with a phone built in". Not the other way around, this is nuts though. They probably just made it as a "flagship" model, something that no one will buy and that they can boast about even if it's practical or not..."we have the first 10mp camera phone".

what the hell you gonna take pictures of? 10 mega pixels????? Makes more sense on a actual camera. I guess you want that supper detail of your teenage pimple face years, cuz i sure hope that 10mega pixels of detail brings out everything.

great for stalkers too by the way.

dont even think stalkers would be able to use it with such a big lens. For $950 you could get a good phone and a good camera seperately...

In reality, why doesn anyone really NEED a phone with a camera on it? I mean, I would be happier with a devent, high quality phone that could take a few knocks and survive, rather than a phone with so a camera that you just KNOW will die the first time you drop it =/

Didn't they....

Didn't samsung awhile back make the claim of, "worlds first 7.1mp camera phone".....which made the top-worst tech-item on many lists....

If so, I wonder if Samsung learned from their mistake(s).

Maybe they're shooting for number 1 this year. Gotta be the best at something, so I guess being the best of the worst counts.

Who cares about someone else's worst tech list. This is the bleeding edge of technology, thats all anyone cares about.

Why i ask why?

this isn't a phone. it's a camera/PMP with a phone added. i don't suppose you could provide pics? and a 10MP camera better have:
a.) a lot of memory
b.) support for RAW
especially for the price of $950.

The review had a pic, but you can get some better pictures here:

It looks normal-sized except for that lens. Not easy to keep in a pocket and you'd need a clip made exclusively for that phone I'd imagine,

The lenses retract into the phone, so in the end it is no bigger than other phones

Sensor size

Correction, it's in the sensor size. Physical size. Not the megapixel marketing crap.
