Spanish technology website
has the scoop on ATI’s latest chipset roadmap
. The roadmap outlines new details on ATI’s upcoming
RS690, RX690, RD550, RD790, RX790, RS790
series of chipsets
which are both integrated graphics products. There isn’t much mention of official product names for
yet, however, the roadmap hints towards Radeon Xpress 1250 and Radeon Xpress 1200 for
respectively. Both integrated graphics chipsets feature a Radeon X700 derived graphics core with support for AVIVO technology. AVIVO features such as vector adaptive de-interlacing and advanced downscaling are supported for an improved media PC experience. The graphics core is equipped with four pixel-pipelines as well.
There’s very little difference between the

will be available, however
availability is expected in November.
In a move to push the
CrossFire Xpress 1600 down to a value level,
ATI will release
for the less than $100 market. This will move
CrossFire Xpress 1600 motherboards down to the $60 price point and leave
CrossFire Xpress 3200 at the $120+ price point. ATI has named
CrossFire Xpress 3100.
is based off of ATI’s high-end
CrossFire Xpress 3200
but lacks the dual full-speed PCI Express x16 configuration. ATI is aiming to take on NVIDIA’s nForce 570 SLI with RD550 CrossFire Xpress 3100.
Further down the product roadmap are the
RD790, RX790, RS790
chipsets. These chipsets will arrive in the second half of 2007 and first half of 2008.
will be the first to arrive and will carry the CrossFire Xpress moniker. This will be a high end enthusiast chipset with support for
AMD’s 4x4 platform
. It will support socket 1207 processors, AMD’s Hyper Transport 3.0 specification and quad-core processors. Four graphics cards and PCI Express 2.0 will be supported as well. Replacing the upcoming

RE: Word is Intel wants NVDA to focus on Intel instead of AMD

It does make sense for nVidia to focus on Intel products, at least in the long term. You can bet that ATI will get first access to any information relating to creating new AMD motherboard chipsets. Even if Intel doesn't ask nVidia to focus on their products it will happen naturally.
ATI could be months ahead in their chipset development for future AMD chipsets compared to nVidia, VIA, etc., just from the early information, leading to ATI looking like they are better.

I might point out that Nvidia is already in the position with Intel that it will eventually be with AMD. Currently, Nvidia lags a bit behind Intel with their chipsets, and it is quite possible that they will end up similarly with AMD. If anything, this will balance Nvidia's focus between brands rather than focus it more on one than the other. Then again, AMD has made it clear that they do not envision their relationship with Nvidia changing drastically in the chipset segment. I think their acquisition of ATI has little to do with the Chipset front as they have had the opportunity to make their own chipsets in the past, have made a few, and generally got out of that sector as soon as they could. This merger was about changes in the wind that AMD forsees. Whether they will happen or not is the big question, but with Vista and Aero Glass leading the way in terms of more closely connecting graphics hardware with system hardware, it looks to be a very smart decision.
