Metal Gear Solid 4

Devil May Cry 4

Final Fantasy XIII

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Gran Turismo HD
Plus shocking news of a Gran Turismo without cars

In addition to the information of PlayStation 3’s pre-launch price cut, Ken Kutaragi’s keynote address at this year’s Tokyo Game Show revealed some new facts on Sony’s next-generation console.

Most should already expect the PlayStation 3 to be backwards compatible with original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software, but the new word is that Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and NEC PC Engine/TurboGrafx systems will also be emulated. Certainly, this mimics Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console feature. Pricing structure has yet to be revealed, but we expect something in the $5 to $15 range.

As was the case with previous PlayStation ramblings, Kutaragi described his long-term vision of the PlayStation 3 being capable of everything from global mapping systems to online shopping and banking.

Of course, actual games were on display at the TGS. All the usual suspects were there, including Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Virtua Fighter 5 (original, risky game ideas to soon follow, we hope). Of particular interest is Gran Turismo HD, which is on demo currently at TGS.

According to a Beyond3D forum poster with a copy of the latest Famitsu, GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi detailed two different versions of Polyphony’s driving simulator. Gran Turismo HD Premium will include 30 cars and 2 courses, with that number to double eventually with downloadable content. Despite the name, Gran Turismo HD Classic is much more radical – the game is bundled with no cars or courses! Instead, cars are purchased for 50 to 100 yen from a selection of over 750 cars and a course for 200 to 500 yen from over 50 available. Assuming that one manages to purchase/unlock every single car and track in the game, the total costs could be equivalent of up to USD$637.50 for cars and USD$213 for tracks. Perhaps something was lost in translation from Famitsu’s interview, but if not, then Sony’s probably rubbing its hands together at the thought of this cash cow.

Ninja Gaiden?? Did I see Ninja Gaiden coming to PS3???

I might have to reconsider not buying PS3 now.

Isn't Ninja Gaiden Sigma just a remake of Ninja Gaiden (Black) with Rachel as a playable character?

I was wondering that too...looked around on the net a little and find out that the jury is still out on that, although the screenshot certainly looks like the Stadium (and the monsters..and Rachel...and her war axe) are all from the original Gaiden. Nonetheless...I bought the original...I bought black...and I'd probably buy another remake with some new stuff thrown in. The game is just too good to miss anything. Either way, though, when the next new Gaiden comes out...whether this is it or not...it'll likely be available on both systems.

I could imagine all the chicks form Dead or Alive as playable characters. That would kick some serious ...

Hmm...Playstation 3 is becoming more of an enigma, I mean first Mr. Kutaragi announced that the PS3 would run Linux, then motion sensing on the controllers, and now that it would also run Genesis and Turbografx games ala Nintendo Wii.. So in other words the Playstation 3 is a mix between a high-end Sony Vaio and a Nintendo Wii..makes sense. (Would it make sense to sell Genesis/Turbografx if the system could also run Linux??..honestly)

According to Gamespot preview , Devil May Cry 4 looks like updated graphic with the same gameplay and feel of Devil May Cry 3 ;( i was really disappointed when i read that.

Also rumors of GT HD about screw its fan even more by releasing the game with no track or car. You buy your track / car with PS3 online money. Meaning it could end up costing $400 to $900USD to buy every car/track that you would get if the game selling for $60.

Price cut? What price cut? I don't live in Japan. Also, I think in short order ebay prices will exceed $ridiculous$ for a PS3. It will be worse than the 360 launch if the 500,000 units figure is still accurate.

If the price cuts go world wide, wouldn't the premium price PS3 become the "tard" sku now.

I mean $170.00 for Wi-Fi Card, Flash Card Reader, 40 additional GB and some chrome trim seem like alot.

You could buy the all black PS3, a 40 GB harddrive from Newegg and a some chrome nail polish for about $460.00 bucks.

Spending an extra 140 bucks for a wifi card and flash card reader seem like alot.

Clarification...

At the very minimum it should be pointed out here that both GT games will come on the sme disc, so it's not a multi-SKU strategy or anything.

I don't get this GT HD stuff one bit.

I hope that content is free. The original GT games were so successful because they came with so much content out of the box. Maybe if the gaming industry would change stategies from ripping off/nickle diming consumers there would be less pirating. I think it's less moral to rip off a consumer than for a consumer to pirate a video game. Bastards deserve it. $630 to unlock every car? These people have lost it all together.

lol I won't buy it. That was exactly my point. Not buying it doesn't mean that the software can't be had at super-discounted price or free. If software companies would wise up to this and offer more value for consumers instead of less value there would be less pirating. GT is a prime example since they always gave so much value and I always bought their games, but now if they get greedy I won't buy, as you say. Doesn't mean I won't still play the game ;)

I might agree. But I think your definition of ripping off a customer and mine are vastly different. They offer a product at a price you think is too high. Oh yes, how highly immoral of them. Lamborgini, Ferrari, and Porshe are all highly immoral companies. Yes, they are much worse than car thieves.

Yes, I think I'll write to the EU, and complain. They'll fix it. They'll fine every company that makes stuff that cochy can't afford or just thinks costs too much. Yes, a much better world this would be.

The PS3 is becoming more appealing.

First they announced a price cut, now emulation. What's this about Ninja Gaiden Sigma? It looks like you just play through the same game, but with Rachel?

Been reading thru Tecmo forums, and it seems like Rachel will get her own missions. Not sure if it's appealing, since she always got her ass whupped off and get caught in the original story.

Well, I am a Ninja Gaiden fanboy, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to resist. I'm glad NG2 is coming to the 360, however. I'm assuming Halo 3 will suck as bad as Halo 2, so NG2 can claim the "best Xbox360 game" award like its predecessor did on Xbox (with Halo 1 a very close #2). Keep in mind, those are my own personal awards. ;-)

I agree! I still have some TurboGraphix games. One of the best games ever made was Ys for the Turbo CD. And I remember Bonk and the original Sonic. So many good memories from these old games. New games can learn a lot from these games, like make a game fun first, then worry about graphics.

I hope GT fails horribly

I'm sick of the newest trend of paying for add ons for games that should have been part of the game to begin with.

Thirty cars and 2 tracks for GT? I would be bored with that in a few days, and I think that is what Sony is hoping for... so I'll pay out the nose to download more content. I don't know the exact numbers of previous GT games for car and track counts, but that was definately a huge draw to the game.

What's next? Having to buy a sword for Ninja Gaiden so you can play the first level? Having to buy virtual gas for your cars? When are they going to start charging for patches?

I agree. I hope these DC scams fail so companies will stop. Its ridicolous to have to pay for content in a game.

GT HD

I bought my PS2 with GT4 about 3 years ago. No other games have been purchased. I bought it just for GT4. So you could say the game price was about $400CAD.

I've rented the odd game and watched the odd movie on PS2, to be truthful.

PS3 = $750CAD? approximately + GTHD $80CAD + cars and tracks $1200CAD

Grand total = I'm broke!

How about the Gran Turismo HD thing. The game looks stunning, is an understatement, it even looks like a real pic was used. Anyway as stunning as the game might look, I will never do that micro purchase mess.

I have the 360 and have yet to purchase anything online. I think its insane that thses games are already 60 dollars and 30 for the same game on the pc. And yet you still have to pay for extra content (free on the pc by the way). Lets see the final verdict on that GTHD online mess.

I don't consider emulating pirating at all. First of all, show me where I can legitly get old school NES/Genesis games and a system to play them that isn't used crap. Second, I refuse to pay for something that I bought 10-15 yrs ago. I simply will not do it. As far as I'm concerned, emulators are perfectly fine. The only reason Nintendo and Sony are doing this back catalog shit is so they can milk more money out of 10-20 yr old titles. Well, this is one person who will not be participating.

And as far as GTHD goes, Polyphony is smoking some serious crack.

Umm... Actually I believe it is. You own the media, but technically only license the software. Your license should still be valid even without the media. Although I guess that also depends if it was truly "Lost/Stolen" or "Destroyed".

The thing I loved about GT was playing through the courses to get enough cash to buy newer cars and better stuff to unlock more courses to get more cash to...

and also of course just straight racing with a friend.

It seems like they took both those parts out of the game, unless I shell out a lot of cash to buy it all that is.

What If...

What if the goal with GT HD is that you can buy the cars if you want to, but that you could also earn them in the game as is the case with current GT games ?

That would give people that are not that good in GT the option of buying into the next best thing, while the other people can just play the game and get cars and tracks that way.

But if they realy expect me to buy all the cars and tracks then I'm afraid that my obsession with GT stops right here...

Is it just me or does it seem like they keep ripping off the Wii? First the motion sensing controller, now the ability to emulate SEGA and Turbo Grafix 16. Whatever, all that matters is that they produce a good product (which I probably won't buy, at least not for a while anyway), and I can't see that this added ability to emulate will really matter.
