Palm spreads some love in Europe

Palm today announced its new Treo 750v for Vodafone customers in Europe. The Treo 750v uses Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and operates on Vodafone's 3G/UMTS network. The Treo 750v supports Direct Push Technology thanks to Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) and includes a number of popular Microsoft applications including mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.

As for the unit itself, it features a built-in 1.3MP camera which is a requisite item these days. Also included is a QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 1.2 support, 300MHz Samsung processor, 128MB of RAM (60MB dedicated user storage), a miniSD card slot for expansion and a 240x240 TFT screen. The unit measures 4.4" x 2.3" x 0.8" and weighs just 5.4 ounces. Talk time is rated at 4.5 hours with 10 days standby with the included 1200 mAH lithium-ion battery.

The Treo 750v will be available in Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom before the end of 2006.

so, I think this is the most appealing PDA/phone that has been posted around here in a while... is there an amercan version that is designed the same? Specifically one that works on the GSM network (ie T-Mobile)

It looks similar to the 700w, but the problem with all of them is 240x240 (most windows mobile software is designed for 320x240) so a lot of software doesn’t work right or doesn’t look right on it.

what?? 240x240?

Why would one buy a 240x240/wifi-less device?

The only reason to buy one is possible a fervent love for self-torture? The display on my eenie-weenie SMT-5600 is 176 x 220, and it's about a half the size of this thing in total (conservatively speaking). You'd think that newer generations would have higher pixel density to go with their new hoozie-gadgets.

MS doesnt support 320x320, so 240x240 is the only option for Win mobile and square screens.

The Palm OS phones are all 320x320, and Palm has stated that the Palm OS versions of thier upcoming phones will be as well. Rumor says the next version of win mobile will do 320x320 as well.
