According to a report a London-based virtual reality firm has raised $500m in one of the biggest investments in a European tech company at early stage.

Japan’s Softbank is backing Improbable in funding round that values the business at more than $1bn.

This shows that now the UK’s technology sector can compete with the best.

Herman Narula and Rob Whitehead founder of Improbable five years ago, who had studies together at Cambridge University majoring in computer science. Their aim was to build virtual worlds and simulations in a large –scale mainly for games developers but also for other clients who could use them in applications such as modeling transport systems.

The company claims that they have developed revolutionary technology with Spatial OS operating system, which it has partnered with Google to put its system on the search giant’s cloud allowing small developer to create massive simulations without much infrastructure of their own.

Mr. Narula’s goal is to create completely new realities, massive virtual worlds that can impact the way we live, work and impact the way we understand some of the hardest problems. He also made clear that he and his colleagues had been determined to stay in control. ”Retaining our independence was something we talked about in a bar five years ago,” hoping that perhaps Improbable can build a world where a British technology firm can match anything coming out of Silicon Valley or China.

This statement is a report for now and the time will demonstrate the outcome of the technology to the public sooner or later.
