Sharp's AQUOS Crystal will also be available on Boost and Virgin for $149

It looks as though new wireless plans are the only thing that Sprint is announcing this week. This afternoon, Sprint announced that Sharp’s new AQUOS Crystal smartphone is coming to its network.
Obviously, the first thing to catch your eyes is the smartphone’s 5” edge-to-edge 720p display. The display features virtually no bezel along the side or the top of the device. The only real bezel left is below the screen, which means that you’d most definitely want to be careful when using the AQUOS Crystal without a case.
So your next question might be, “Where’s the earpiece?” The entire screen of the phone acts like a giant earpiece thanks to its Direct Wave Receiver.

Once you get past the snazzy looks and trick earpiece, things get decidedly more ho-hum. The smartphone includes a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage (although a microSD slot is included), 2040 mAh battery, HD Voice support, Harman Kardon Clari-Fi audio technology, and photo duties are handled by 8MP rear and 1.2MP front-facing cameras.

The Sharp AQUOS Crystal comes in black or white, and will be available for $239 (no contract) on Sprint’s wireless network. You can also pickup the phone for $10/month using Sprint Easy Pay or for $149.99 using Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile.
Unfortunately, Sprint hasn’t announced a launch date for its latest smartphone offering.

Case may limit screen size...

It's unlikely anyone with common sense is going to use this device without a case. I have to wonder how much of that screen edge is going to be lost by said case. Granted, probably not much more than a bezel on a regular smartphone, but if that's the case, why even include the feature?

Cases are so ugly and ghetto. Never used one on any of my phones.

You can get a nice slim fit case that adds a bit of protection and doesn't add much bulk at all. Some of them actually look pretty nice.

To be fair, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and above look like crap anyway, case or no case.

Agreed. But better with a case.
